Purchasing my power cables and terminals etc...

Post by jsayre914 »

I was shopping on Sonic and noticed that prices are all over the charts.

for example 0guage inline fuse is like 50 buck brand name.

same fuse holder is 20 bucks or less off brand. WTF

i am in need of 4 battery terminals and a couple of disto blocks. one fused and one not. I was also trying to figure out my cabling. Monster has nice terminals positive and negative that i like. But monster 0guage power or ground is not in my price range. I also dont want a whole heap of mismatched brands, but if its price i will do it.

I need someone to tell me not to buy cheap fused blocks and inline fuse holders. Any reason they will not work as good.

I need reccomendation on 0guage power and ground that is affordable. And another question ... I was going for 0guage from the batteries right to the fuse block next to the 3 amps and then 4 guage right to the amps <then a foot. Is that overkill??

thanks for the tips

This is a rough sketch, to give you an idea, i am going to need a lot of fusses between firewalls etc and i am not sue exactly how to do it. Should i buy fused disto blocks or inline fuse holders. And the starter and ECU were not fused from the factory, should i fuse them now??

Don't fuse the starter. You can fuse the ECU if you want to. For power wire it looks like you should shop here...

Not mine but it sure looks like it would fit your bill.

I first suggest planning out the wire runs you are required to make so that you can determine exactly what distro blocks (fused or unfused) you'll need.

Next determine if you want show or go, for example, you can go with flashy battery terminal blocks such as Monster Cable (which will probably corrode in due time) or go with a $3.00 pack of coated corrosion resistant marine terminals which are so cheap to replace its a no brainer.

I purchased these at WalMart and swapped out the black negative block as it had a smaller threaded post. When installed, one of these will be painted black to reflect the negative so there's no confusion.

After much deliberation for wiring I decided to go with budget conscious but very nice quality Knu Konceptz cable: http://www.knukonceptz.com/productMaste ... ks%20Kable

All my cable ran under $250.00 shipped. It's a combo of power/ground 0/1awg from battery to the distro blocks, 4awg to the (2) amplifiers, 8awg for my DD5, 12awg for front stage speakers, 10 awg for subwoofer and 100 feet of blue remote wire. I went bigger than necessary on almost every cable, as I like to purchase once and be done with it just in case I upgrade anything.

Food for thought...

Try Darvex.com for a good price on name brand install gear. They are popular on ebay as well.

Thanks just the right timing I needed one myself. The Ebay seller only has 3 left now. I really wanted red wire but I will just cover it.

Thanks everybody for the response. I like the company JayGold pointed out, seems like good stuff cheap. I pasted products onto my drawing, I love paintbrush :D I was wondering... seems like there are too many fuse holders side by side on battery 2. Is there a better way to do it??

I also letterd my wires if that helps in the discussion. Please let me know if this looks good, or what you might change.

0 guage wires > B, C, E, F, G, M, N, O, P

4 guage wires > A, D, H, J, K, L

:) yeah its beefy.

lil history lesson. gauge came from what fraction of a inch it was in diameter.

so 1awg (should be) = 1 inch tall

4awg = 1/4
8awg = 1/8

etc
