Agreed, go wih a powercore 15, there's one on eBay right now.

I'll bet the reason Eric doesn't rebuild the powercore 20 is that Rees so many caps in it, the cost would be insane (I think I calculated it was like $700 in caps, plus the labor to replace that many caps, it's $1000+). If nothing else, gut it and just leave it in there for show.

I would just add a buss bar inside and use it for show and a ground block

Nope but close. Lab field service engineer. Specialized in hematology, urinalysis, and coag. I handle vials of blood daily. I adjust and focus lasers that can blind me if they shine into my eyes directly. I adjust needles with 40psi behind them. If they activate with my hand there it will pierce my bone like butter.

excuse my ignorance eric I guess I am a bit confused as what would be so dangerous about working on a powercore or a one? Of course the first step would be to discharge the system to work on it safely but its never been something life threatening that I am aware of. Now the explosive possibility I have seen more then a few caps pop I think we have been working around leaky caps for long enough to know how to handle them. Just curious really.

Perhaps is the fact you need quite a large power supply in order to even test "the one". I recently upgraded mine from a single 90amp Cascade to three 90amp power supplies with a large battery, each has a dedicated 20amp breaker.


But nothing is more fun that holding on to the speaker outputs while playing a 60hz sine wave....Have a dmm attached to see how much you can handle

I wear safety glasses when I power on amps I am fixing, as I have had capacitors explode in front of me. Having a powercore explode sounds like a good way to be maimed for life, or even dead.

As for big amps, they have rail voltages which are 100V and beyond (DC). I would prefer not to die working on fixing a $300 amplifier. I think there is more to life than that.

My home supply is 200A at 13.8V DC. It is capable of charging lots of things up to dangerous levels.

I regularly work with 480V three phase where I am employed. One wrong move and I would be dead, so I tend to carry over the safety techniques I use there to my home amplifier repair.

Well look what came back from the doctor...from Dr. Fosgate!?!? Yep the Reactor amps just got in all fix with new caps! Tomorrow I'll be assembling them back up and back in the civic they go. Again thanks Eric for this.

RCA is already installed and keeping the other one as a spare. As for the Powercore Ti20 nothing yet, rally haven't decided yet what I'm going to do with. Just want to start tuning and put some videos on this site with the civic playing music!!! lol

Will be doing an update soon on the install, finally got to do the switches panels...more to come on that one...

I think I would do like eric said and just open it up and make it into a dist block with a couple of buss bars inside. Its not going to add anything to the sound of the stereo but it could very well set the car on fire.........
