Post by deathcloud »

How does this look so far. I was working on this for Matt and his company. Let me know what I can add/change. Like should I darken the mountains. Smooth it out. Make the mountains a solid green. Let me know. Hopefully it is legit :)

Hope you like it Matt.

Ive been working on it for like 3 hrs. I can add your name, email, phone number next. I will be doing that now. but just wanted to post it and see what everyone thought.

Looks good, but I'd darken the mountains or make them Greener, but not by to much.

I would darken the mountains a bit, but it also depends on what card stock you are going to use to print the cards on. Also, I would move his name to the middle and then move the phone number and e-mail to the bottom and have one on each side.

Yea photoshop Creative Suite 4. Its an intense photoshop program. I can darken the mountains but it has to be to your liking. Because it could be too much and then look like the green of john deer or something. But I can move your name to wherever you want and have phone and email placed wherever you want.

what do folks think that i should use

northeastpowdercoating.com

or northeastpowder.com

I was thinking that the shorter it is the easier it is to remember/recall... but it's not the actual name of business... so i dunno... suppose i could pay for both. but just trying to keep expense down right now.

m??m

OH and deathcloud... Drop the s in coatings... it's just gonna be coating. I think so anyways.

could we also add the text of or idea of that other preparation services are also available...i.e. something like:

If theres room or the idea makes sense??

Also Offering:
Sand Blasting
Powder & Ceramic Coatings
Metal Finishing

AND I can also do Anodizing.. but it is something that I would farm out.. but I have a connection with the guys in the back of G & S Precision which they do anodized work in house for their needs, but i can also bring work to them.. so in theory I can also do anodizing i would just farm it out.

what say you... it would add to the list of services offered.

And MAYYYYBEEE something about the fact that it is a "green process"

Up here in VT, being "green" is truly what makes all the difference in the world. Talking to home builder last night at his tag sale, and he said that i just would not believe how many ppl are inclined to go with a company that is "Green" versus a Non-Green Co. Even knowing and understanding that it costs more... just the fact that it is environmentaly friendly, is such a big plus. how could we also then convey that on the card?

heading out to corner store and then shop....

@ Joerg if reading this... I have 2 pounds of Franked PC made up and it looks like a, if not perfect, a damn close enough match for the franks stuff. Pic's of completed work later on today.

I can try to think of some different ways to convey that. Basically a consumer wants to see if you are going green which means are environmentally safe with all chemicals and dispose properly. Not into your backyards drainage haha. But yea I can maybe put a little logo of a tree with the green recycle arrows around it to convey that or something.

OK check this one out. I got the right contrast and darkness of the mountains that make it look greener. Hopefully like your real vermont mountains haha. And also I included everything that you wanted. Let me know if you want me to change things around. It looks good!

Looks like a good start, but I;m just not getting it. I just dont get the mountains. Lets just say you had Lorem Ipsum in there instead of text. What would you guess that card is for? Then again, Im a fan of simple. I dont like things cluttered up a lot. Its hard on a card, but sometimes you have to be picky about it. I settled with just a name, phone and email on my card.

Im curious about trying something. Are you printing double sided? I used Overnight prints and they are great. Really thick stock and color correct.

I like it!!!! So if the process more eco freindly as opposed to other? Or are you just recycling the boxes everything comes in :D :D :D :D

Seriously though? I know they don't just blow the dust out without filtration and doesn't the over vent out fumes through filters? I am genuinely interested....I just put a few under the range fans in my paint booth and it blows right out at the side door of the bar next door whose patrons have driven thru my fence three times!!!! Briefly thought about taping right into their ac line :D :D :D :D

So what all are you doing to make the oven....I love watching this stuff come together. I've always been into residential construction and renovation...the industrial stuff eludes me......

how about making the background the frank samples that he did up in his first or second run? It would be a modern kinda trippy look.

Couple of negative nancy comments...

NPC... I know we already had a thread on this, but I don't like three-letter acronyms for shop names... what does mean if you have no idea what the acronym stands for?
http://images.google.ca/images?q=npc
http://www.acronymfinder.com/NPC.html

Not only that, but it is reeeally generic as far as shops go, for example let's search for "powder coating logo":
http://images.google.ca/images?q=powder+coating+logo

Look at all the other powder coating companies. APC, PPC, CPC, C&C, AMS, MPS, QPC... and the list goes on. Looks like the vast majority of them are three letter acronym named, and at least half of those are called *PC.

Looks like there is already an NPC Northeast Powder Coatings in the UK too:
http://www.northeastpowdercoatings.co.uk/

Think about your website. Think about how you will rank in google's search results amongst the thousands of other NPC's. You should have a memorable name that is also unique enough to stand out amongst the crowd.

If you're not concerned with having Audio in the title anymore, then it should be less difficult to figure out a smart name. For example in Calgary the shop I used was "Top Gun Coatings". They had a cool logo too:
http://www.topguncoatings.com/

This is a good name because
- Top Gun, as in we have good powder coating guns but also
- Top Gun, as in kick ass jets and everyone loves jets fuck yeah

Same goes for your catchphrase. If you are going to use one, it should have a purpose. But all it does is repeat your company name in a different order. You should try saying something different and meaningful, or leave it out.

The ALSO OFFERING section of your business card says you do more than just powder coating, so why leave powder in the title at all? Just Coatings should suffice. Green Mountain Coatings or something along that line would be a much more appealing brand name if you ask me.

Now regarding the business card...

First of all, the background image is full of JPG compression artifacts. Find a better source image! It can't be that hard to find a rolling mountainscape!

The black on green is impossible to read, and will only get worse when printed. Try adding a few pixels of white stroke to the layer, or outer glow.

Does being "green" have to be on the card twice? Your card should be concise and to the point. I would add it to your list of "things we do", if at all. That's the kind of thing you put on your website or advertise at the store.

Well I liked it till tom said that and I looked at it again...I think he may well be right Matt. And what happened to the audio thing? Did I miss something? Good points Tom....

I still think of the neo hippies downtown with all the green thing...there and coming around too petition all the latest social atrocities on the other side of hell and back...plus everyone on the continent is doing the same now....like organic veggies in every store for 5 bucks more a pound then the opposing non organic banana's....isn't that an oxymoron anyway.....

I need to digest what has been said here... and if folks could look at the shop pic's thread....

what about Gold Phoenix Coatings, or Gold Phoenix Powder Coating???

see that thread for more info...

I really need to get something in order....

Green Mountain Coatings (i think has actually been taken) i will double check... so going with Green mountian Powder Coating would be just too close for comfort.

okay...

just spouting out more ideas...for a name...

1) Golden Phoenix Phinishings (or maybe spell it correctly finishings)

2) Gold Phoenix Phinishings (or maybe spell it correctly finishings)

3) Golden Phoenix Coatings (hard to say though)

4) had also thought of / considered: "Top Dawg Powder Coating" (like it, but not sure)

5) Upgrade-You Coatings / Upgrade-You Powder Coating (not so much, but kinda catchy)

AND/BUT to respond to the question of who i would like to market... well.....anyone TBH... bikers, home owners with their old rusty out door furniture and mailboxes, to manufactures. so anyone really. So mayhaps a name that would attract just about anyone. "Top Dawg Coatings" maybe... i dunno..

BUT do appreictae the input from everyone... guess ultimately i need to make decision, but having constructive criticism and input is of help. keep it coming.

yea just remember it is a process. It is going to be your business name. It is going to have to be something very creative and something that has had a lot of thought. So it can last with you however long your business lasts.

It is good that we have this phorum to hear everyone's input because everyone is a potential consumer and knows what is good and what they like about certain companies. So I like hearing this stuff.

Maybe on my day off I will create a logo of a golden phoenix and under one wing a G and under the other wing a P and then have the golden phoenix holding a sprayer between its talons (almost like the american eagle holding a branch design) and then have it say coatings beneath it. That is what I thought of from all the ideas....
