ok... sorry to dredge this back up again...
but i've decided to go 3 ways in the new car, a wagon..
sub bass will be provided by an IDMAX12d2 v3 powered off the Tantrum 1200.1..
front stage will be active 3 way, controlled by the famous Alpine H701..
i was originally planning on getting a morel 3 way set, comprising of Elate6, cdm54 & supremo tweeter (not the picollo).. Which i had before and enjoyed (memories of it, altho cant remember the sound - lol)
my mate who owns the PG's is hinting that i get them... so, im back at this crossroad..
if i were to grab his PG Ti Elite Comp 5 and elite 6 midbass, i'd still get the supremo for top end duties..
the final setup would then be:
- Elite6 off T600.4 bridged
- Elite5 off T500.2
- supremo off T300.2
the midbass would need enclosures within the doors which is possible.. and the 5's would be in the kicks, possibly in enclosures as well..
some q's..
- do the midrange need to be on axis or can i mount them flush with the kick panel as such? over here, the driver is on the wrong side of the car, and we have an accelerator pedal in the way..
- what volume enclosures do i need for both the 5 and the 6?
- how would the PG Ti Elite setup compare to the Morel??
any other thoughts?
Thanks guys!!

If you're going to run active, why tie yourself down to any specific speakers? For example, the Elite 6's aren't fabulous at midbass... you would be better off with a purpose built midbass like this:

Hell if you're willing to build sealed pods you could even do 6.5" subwoofers pretty easily. One thing i've always wanted to try is a set of ported (to extend the bottom end) 6.5" subwoofers up front, and foregoing the entire subwoofer in the trunk completely.
The PG component set was designed for off-axis performance, though that was mostly tweaked through the crossover. Running active will negate a lot of the hard work the PG engineers did in taming the set. I personally have not been able to get my Elites to sound anywhere near as good when run actively. Sure they get a lot louder, but without the crossover I get wacky hot spots, phase and blending issues that are difficult to tame.
I think running the Elites actively is a bit of a waste. Why buy a set that was engineered for a passive crossover and then remove it? If you want to go active, there are better drivers IMO, like Scanspeak revelators or SEAS Excel for example

Very valid points there.. thanks..
The same mate has other "better" speakers to suit active.. including:
- Vifa M18W0-09 6.5" midbass
- Peerless HSD 6.5" woofers (830874)
- Seas L18RNX 6.5" midbass drivers
for me, he has the elate6 & cdm54...

Thinking about this a little further..
I think i'll stick with my morel 3 way... put midbass in doors, and midrange & tweeter up on the a-pillar..
Someone close this thread before i change my mind... please!
