Did you even try to get the bigger speaker's in? You'll be surprised at what a little ingenuity will get you. I say go bigger.
I havent bought them yet. I dont wanna buy them and then maybe have to go through hell to fit them or pay big bucks to get someone to do it. I'll get the 5.25's and if i dont like the way they sound, I'll sell them to a friend I guess.
If I knew I was gonna keep the car for a long time I would spend the money on getting the door done properly. But I only plan on keep the car a few years.
I wish I knew the sound difference between the 5.25" and the 6" so I could tell you if going with the "safe" size is worth it for less hassle OR if the midbass is just that much better on the 6" or 6.5" than the 5.25" to warrant an attempt at fitting the larger driver.
I have the 6" and they still have very good midbass for a 6" woofer. I don't think it's quite the midbass of the 6.5" (I think people on this forum have unanimous love for these things, especially at the price range), the 6" still POUNDS. I'm running each set from maybe 40W at absolute maximum as my gain isn't cranked and they can be run at a perfect volume where it's not so loud as to be uncomfortable, but still loud enough to kick ass with insane clarity and a good midbass presence, along with all it's other good qualities (the tweets for instance).
I can't say anything about the 5.25" though as I've never heard it BUT if it pounds any less than just a little bit than the 6" then and if you really want good midbass, to try out the 6" or 6.5" sets.
Like what everyone else stated,
There's probably not going to be much difference in midbass.
What is probably more important is properly sealing them to the door panel with sealing tape

A few years, is a relatively long time. It sounds like your just going to slapping them in and go. They may not fit the factory location and if they do you will probably be disappointed with the midbass. Personally if its worth doing, it worth doing right. Get creative, take the door panel off, take some measurement, maybe Fiberglass the angled enclosure, you could buy a MDF rings, find/pay someone to make a base to mount and bolt it to the door. Seal up and use deadner in the door.

Basically what I was gonna do was Put a sheet of dynomat behind the speaker (I cant afford do do the entire door on each side. Seal the speaker and just put it in the stock location.
This way when I sell the car, I take out my stuff and put back the stock stuff.
