Today's project

Today I finally upgraded the headunit in the FJ!!! I switched from this:

To THIS!!

First of all thanks Wakeup!! This seems like a damn nice headunit, now if I can just figure it out. The dash kit fit pretty good for a Scosche and the wiring was a breeze. It sounded pretty good right out of the box, and even better with a few adjustments. I'm still figuring it out, but so far this is a HUGE step above stock. The biggest pain was trying to relocate the SLD44. I had it under the center console using the high inputs, but switched today because I can now use RCA's. Thus it would not fit under the center console anymore. It ended up under the passenger seat for lack of a better place. Tomorrow I have to run new power and ground wires to the headunit to try and eliminate the alt whine, but when the vehicle is off this sounds great! And yes, that Sirius cradle is going away as soon as I buy the Kenwood Sirius box.

Quick question, would you guys run new power and ground wires to the SLD44 as well or just the headunit first?

NICE! Love it! I hope you really enjoy that deck. I loved it...still have my spare...hehe
Just don't have a remote for it like that one anymore.

Like I told ya...big learning curve on the deck! but GREAT features. It has some timing adjustments...and other things to play with...EQ....etc.
Some hints for you, in order to set up certain things (if you didnt know already) you have to have the deck in standby. (Ie: off)

good luck...let me know if I can be of any more service!

Thanks man! You better look out though, if I get lost your gonna be my life line!

And DB, I re did the grounds a long time ago. I had a slight alt whine with the stock head unit as well. I'm willing to bet the factory ground to the headunit is absolute crap. I'll redo them hopefully tomorrow and see if that is the problem. Anybody want to put money on it?

And did you find the manual for the unit? I have it posted in my sale thread I think.
If not...let me know...I might be able to find it.

Just checking
and I would say more than likely your stock HU ground is responsible...they are always crap

Pretty much any OEM ground I have ever seen could use some work

The best part about today is that I didn't even break a trim piece or a clip!! That's a victory for me!! :hurr:

I tried both trim pieces, and to me the Kenwood trim piece just didn't fill in the area like the piece that came with the dash kit. IMO it turned out pretty good!

I can't wait to get rid of that Sirius cradle. I'm on my third antenna with that damn thing. I kept thinking it was the antenna until I tried messing with the plug in the back of the cradle. As soon as I turned it the signal came back. We bought that because we thought we were going to stick with the stock deck, but it just didn't have enough tuning options for me.
