What ti amp is comparable to M100

Post by Clint »

I used to be an installer/IASCA judge and all that about 15 years ago. I installed lots of m series amps (own a m100 amd m44). I know what kind of power they can produce, and how hot they can get. I am not educated on any amps Phoenix made after the m series, because I stopped installing and got out of car audio for while. What amps are most comparable in true power output to the m100 and m44? Curios about ti's and ZPA's.

Ti500.4 (ZXTi475) > M44
Ti600.2 (ZXTi600) = M100

wow...... that is a tough question. The Ti amps have a shitload of power but the M series is more musical. its kinda an apples to oranges comparison to be honest and I own the Ti series.

If I were to make a comparison

it would be between the M series and the MS series

Then the ZX series vs. the Ti/ZXTi series

Eric more or less answered the question.

The M100 is rated at 185W x 2 @ 4ohms (14.4V) or 500W x 1 @ 4 ohms (14.4V). The 600.2 is rated at 150W x 2 @ 4 ohms (14.4V) or 600W @ 4 ohms (14.4V). They are more or less equivalent in rating. That said, I haven't inspected Ti amps closely so I don't know how "under rated" each amp is (that is, how much power it can exactly put out before clipping).

The Ti series does not have as much low end impact as the M series IMO

I believe the Ti series is also regulated...don't hold me to it, I'm not going through manuals right now

+ 1, they appear to require a lot of preamp voltage and bassboost. I think Cecil mentioned something about a mod that will bring it to life.

The Ti line is unregulated.

As far as missing "punch", they do not have anywhere near the headroom of older PG amps, especially the ZX series. So if rated for say 150W x 2, you probably get 175W x 2 (don't quote me, I have not tested the Ti600.2), where as the ZX500 rated for 150W x 2 really does upwards of 225W x 2 (you can quote me on that, I tested my ZX500).

But, Ti amps don't blow up nearly as often as ZX and older amps do (I don't have PG's failure statistics, but I know far less of them show up dead on forums or eBay).

please do! I don't have a birth sheet for my 600 ti so that would be great to get an idea what it does.

Yep, @ 4ohm.

I use 13.8V on my power supply as I have no choice, so that may affect my findings as well.

As I mentioned this birth sheet is for a LE octane so it is made up of 2 ZX600Ti's although the sub side is a little different to allow a 2 ohm mono load. the front amp had a max output of 414.36 watts, and the sub amp was 425.93 watts for a total of 840 watts, at 4 ohms. The front amp is stable at 2 ohms stereo and as I mentioned the sub amp can also handle 2 ohms mono so I am not sure what they would pull at those impedences.

120 amps max current with 56% efficiency would explain why they can run so hot.... That is alot of energy to burn off....

Are you talking about the carbon fiber limited edition Octane? If so, that amp is made of a pair of Ti400.2 boards with an array of caps in the middle. It would be rated at 100W x 4 into 4 ohms, but if yours does 840W at 4 ohms it is well over twice what it is rated at. Here are some photos for comparison.

I have never seen one in black before, but it would look a lot better that way.
