I fu@&ed up yesterday.

Post by smgreen20 »

Getting ready for my 2 hr drive to the in-laws and as I took the sub box out I wrapped up the speaker wire terminals to the amp and as I loaded all the crap, we and the kids had to take, it moved the speaker wire and shorted out to the vehicle ground. Nasty sound and the ZPA0.5 went into protect. Why I had the stereo on I don't know.

I turned off the system then back on and the amp reset. So into the house I went to grab my last few items and shut the door behind me. I heard my kids say "Daddy's not going to be happy". My wife said that there's a noise from the speakers.

Went around to the drivers side to get in and I hear the worst engine whine I've ever heard coming from the right side only. So I get back out and go around to look and things and I can smell that burnt electrical smell. I thought it was the ZX450v2, but after some testing, it was the Audio Control DQS.

So I have yet to go out and take the cover off and look at the board. More things to do right now, so later today I'll get to it. Hopefully it's something I can fix myself. If not, off to the factory for a repair. :( :idiot: :idiot: :idiot:

I found the time to take the cover off and could find NO evidence of anything being burnt.

Did some more trouble shooting to clearly prove it's the DQS and it is.

Damn family! If I didn't have to go, I wouldn'tve screwed it up.

All kidding aside, It'll be to much work to bypass the QDS so it gives me more time to finish up the install..........I hope.

Off to AC for a repair. Wonder how much that'll cost?

Stole my bag .... nothing in it though; only paperwork of the car.
Stereo is all good though.

Brian, Is that what a fuse does?

They do flat rate unless the board is shot. Care to guess what the rate is????

$35.00....... YES! Thank God it's cheap.

The only fuckup I've done in years that involves damaging equipment.

Ive had something similar happen to a dqxs...I took the board out and a few traces were burnt off the board...they were leading from the neg side of the rca terminals...luckly it didnt go any further and take out the drz9255...I know audio control makes great equipment and have for years, but I think they should implement some kind of protection against accidental rca and speaker wire shorts.

Ah you smartass.

I thought real hard to make sure I didn't fuck something else up a while back and posted it here.
And what do you know, you find something.

Jackass

Oh and NO, I don't consider the bumper/tail light/bed of my truck as equipment.

Well, it didn't acure to me that it could be the HU, but I figured I better test for that as well. After all is said and done, it IS the HU that is emitting the engine whine. So off to Eclipse the HU goes.

I'll be pulling out the 8443 that will go into the wifes car when we get her one and I will be using it till I get the 8455 repaired.

Hell I don't know any more. I still have the engine whine after swapping out HU.s So I'm going to buy some Female to Female RCA connectors and bypass the EQ. Hopefully that's what it is.

After more testing I am 100%-ly sure it IS the Audio Control DQS.

I bypassed it all together and no engine whine. So YEA! A cheap fix according to AC.
