Good place online to buy RSDc122 subs?

Post by dako »

Do you guys know of a good online retailer to buy these from? I would go through fleabay using dimensionaudio, but have had a bit of a sour experience with them in the past. They seem to be the only guys selling the 2ohm version on e-bay right now. I'm looking to grab two for the upcoming install in my girlfriend's car (finally got the go-ahead after much prodding).

Yeah, I scoured the internet (at work of course) and it looks like the bay is pretty much the best price out there right now. Seems weird that the dual 2 ohms are more expensive that the dual 4 ohms. When I bought my D4s they were something like $259.00 shipped for the pair. Looks like I'll be spending about $316.00 or so shipped for the D2s...

You're paying for supply/demand....more people want dual 2's...you can run more power that way

That totally makes sense. Looks like I might have to list some stuff for sale in the next couple of days to front for these.

Well... not necessarily. A D4 will take just as much power as a D2. And while there are plenty of 1 ohm monoblocks, there are lots of 2 ohm monoblocks as well. Either impedance pairs well in a wide range of setups... you need to pick what is best for your setup.

However, I'd probably bet that PG made a heck of a lot less D2's than D4's. So the issue is probably low supply, not high demand... though this is just speculation.

I'll probably be letting go of some Tantrum amps and Tantrum end caps. I also have a bunch more Knukonceptz stuff. Off the top of my head I think I've got more Krystal 1m and 2m RCA.

Normally I'd grab up D4 subs in a heartbeat (I prefer to run a 4ohm sub setup), but since the old lady is going to be using an RSD1200.1, I figure having it see a 2ohm load will be the best situation. Plus I'm really curious to hear this combination as I might eventually steer away from the Tantrum line sometime down the road.

SO, you are saying that I'm not going to be able to push more power to the sub @ 1 ohm...than @ 2 ohms using the same amp ?

That depends on the amp. If it's designed for 2 ohms, probably not. If it's designed for 1 ohm, then yes, you would get more power.

For example, an RSD1200.1 is rated for 1200w@2 ohms. By reducing the impedance to 1 ohm, the amp would TRY to make 2400 watts, but it's not robust enough to make that sort of power, so it has to limit itself. This makes it run hotter, without providing much additional power at all. As such, even though the 1200.1 is 1 ohm "stable", I would always run it at 2 ohms, since it will produce just as much power with far less strain on the amp and your power system (i.e. battery, alt, etc).

But if you were using a non PG amp let's say....and you could run it 1 ohm bridged and get more power....you would be looking to buy the 2 ohm versions....that is what I was basing my opinion off of

There are hundreds of possibilities really. 1 ohm monoblocks, 2 ohm monoblocks, 4 ohm bridged on a stereo amp... one sub, two sub. You need to pick your subs around your amp, or your amp around your subs. Just because you have a lower impedance doesn't mean you get more power... it all depends on the setup.

Lots of brands, such as SSA, only supply D4 subs, because they seem to be vastly more popular. I also recall with previous PG subs that the D2's were far more rare, since there was less demand, so they built less of them. Of course in different audio circles, such as home audio, SVC 4 ohm subs are the norm... it varies from brand to brand depending on the niche they are trying to hit.

Since i'm an A/B single subwoofer kinda guy, that means I am typically dealing with 4 ohms bridged, which means I need SVC 4's or DVC 2's. In my experience this has been much more complicated than finding DVC 4's.

I would love to run A/B in my situation, but without upgrading the stock electrical, my car pretty much hates me for it. Call me crazy, but I can actually hear a significant difference in quality.

I'll have to give them a call. That's where I originally picked up my D4 subs. Quick shipping! I don't see the D2 version on their site though...Hmm...
