Craziest noise I have ever encountered

Post by waynehead »

Ok so I got an itch over the weekend and hooked up the 200.4 that has been holding down the carpet in my closet and the craziest thing is happening. I bought the amp thinking it was a fresh refurb. When I first unboxed it I noticed there was a fucked up grommet and two of the four case screws were missing. No big deal, cheap repacements. It powered up on my dudes power supply so it went back in the box. Well like I said earlier I put it in place of my xs2300 saturday running just the front channels and there was a "wind" noise coming through the speakers. Never heard a thing like it. It is almost inaudible but sometimes more prominent. Then I put in the eq that I got from tom. It has a rnet style 90hz crossover in it so i tryed it on. Well after turning the crossover off of the 200.4 the "wind" is accompanied my a signal that moves my 6x9's in ans out, and not just alittle. Further than I push them with music for sure. I honesty have no idea whats up, but definately think it is after the h/u and eq. The only other things I changed was power and ground wire. Any ideas?

O yeah and I also had a fit when I first hooked up the eq Tom. I plugged it in the place my line driver used to be and the signal was all distortion. I take it you had it in your saab because I had to switch it from balanced to unbalanced input. There for a second I was like WTF? lol it was GAWD-AWFUL what was coming out of that thing.

Yes, I was feeding it the factory balanced signal in my Saab. I believe it comes set that way by default and should work even with an unbalanced signal. Oh well, I am glad switching it over worked.

Check the gains as well. I set mine the point just before the clip light started flashing (ended up being 5v in my car since it was boosting such a weak signal). Then match the other channel with your DMM to ensure that they are both at equal voltages. With your headunit you should have a much higher base voltage, so with the gains where I had them set, it might be causing clipping.

Don't forget to download and read the manual... it's pretty good!

If you don't get that sound with your XS2300, then odds are the amp has the usual a cold solder issue. :(
