the scans tweets look awsome, and the seas nextel drivers are by far hands down the best built and most solid 6 1/2" I have owned. They make the dyns and morel I've owned before like sock puppets. Ill snap some better pics of them later.

Op amps replaced w/ BBs and Cecil replaced two of the small caps on each board, not sure what for but I'm sure he'll explain. I was debatign to just bypass the entire front end but I really wanted the ability to bridge the amp still so shot down that idea.

Well the speakers were not hard to choose pretty much the best speakers I could find through objective testing from Zaph and DIYMA admin NPDANG
...the SS 6600 simply measures out silly, but to be the SS 7100 is prob slightly better built because of it's rear chamber in metal instead of plastic on the 6600, but the 6600 wins in performance.

The w18nx is another amazing speaker pretty much head to head w/ the SS 18w in the best all around speaker I could find

yet this is what made my decide on the w18nx instead of ss18w

Nice looking mids, but I like the looks of my Dyns (7") better.

You have been through nearly countless choices of drivers and you finally settled on something I have been trying to push on people for years. I find that pretty cool.

Even before Seas made the Lotus mobile line, I was pushing the use of Excel magnesium cones in cars.

In all honesty though, I don’t know if the coated paper cone will be a great choice for a vehicle. I would think the humidity could destroy the driver over time. And if the cone does not die, the spider may. I don’t think the spider is treated anything beyond just a resin bath during its creation. It may tend to attract mold over time.

In my situation Doc, they will be dug into the kicks like Brett Hoawrd's Install, so I am not very worried at all about mositute. In a car door that would worry me, but the paper cone is coated well enough where, at least I think, it should be able to hold up fine.

From what I've read the mag cones do give a you a higher level of "real" representation of midrange detail but have serve break up problems above 1.8k-2k (at least the 6.5"), and the nextel do not suffer for that problem making them a better choice for a 2-way install as they can be used up to ~3khz. Also the Nextel does give the user a lot more output in the midbass region due to higher excursion found in objective tests outside of Seas published Lit., which is a big bonus due to the fact they will be in IB application. For these reason I found it a better choice to use the Nextels over the Mags.

I was also considering the Seas Crescendo Tweeter, but simply put the Scans 6600 all around measured better and has a near FLAT FR at 30 degrees OFF- AXIS. Starts it roll off at about 18khz; quite amazing.

Just to make people aware, that using home audio drivers IB in your car is not always a good idea. They are not designed for IB installs such as car doors; they were designed for enclosure, and usually have a much lower QTS then what you'd normally use a in an IB application. So basically they are not a good choice for "drop and play" driver, and will lack significantly in low end response, usually. Cabin gain does help here, but if you intend to use home drivers I suggest having many bands of EQ w/ an RTA to make up for the lower QTS driver run IB.

General Rule of Thumb

below .45 QTS = Ported/ AP

.45-.65 QTS = Sealed/ PR

above .65 QTS = IB

There are other factors that figure into enclosure types for drivers; and if you use a driver outside of that circumstance, it does not mean it will not sound good either, it's just a general rule of thumb.

My drivers were sealed in very small enclosures. When I removed them from the car, there was literally water dripping off of them. I removed them on a winter day, and the car had been sitting overnight (in the junk yard impound lot), so it is not as if I was just playing them. The whole experience changed my perspective on speakers in a northern climate.
