what car audio needs

Post by bdubs767 »

A head unit and amps that look classy not bling bling crap, that has DSP some where onboard and the signal travels digital all the way to the amp.

There is NOTHING not one company out there that offers this, (Besides one, it's not here yet and when it is only the rich will be able to afford: Pioneer ODR) and to be honest would not be that hard to create....

Like zapco could of done this easily w/ the DC reference amps, all they would of had to do is put toslink inputs on the amps, and VOILA.

thats my rant for tonight....after drinkign to much beer for good ol mar 17th

didnt know that lol

But I was kinda talking about for instance....

That new head unit coming out, the Alpine CDA-9887 and the PDX amps would of been perfect example of what I would like to see.

You will probably start to see more economical solutions out over the next 2 years. It is hard to believe that the car audio industry (especially the high end) havent done more with this technology. But there are some things coming out of China, Korea, Tawain, ect (ugh) that have started to use this stuff now.

I don’t foresee this happening any time soon. Digital signal transfer has far too many limitations.

All manufacturers would have to settle on a standard, and that won’t happen.

If a new digital format comes out (like SACD, or DVD-A), your amp would be junk then, as it likely would not convert it.

So many people seek older amps for use in their systems (like the MS series), as they just don’t build things like they used too. A digital signal transfer would render all these old amps useless.

And lastly, there is nothing wrong with an analog signal transfer. These days few people have problems with noise. High voltage decks and high quality preamp sections, some with differential inputs, have solved this.

So why fix something which is not broken?

You wouldnt see it as superior to keep the signal in the digital realm as long as possible in the car? I only see that as a benefit, and dont see it as hard to do or that expansive. It would be by far the most user friendly and install friendly things out there. Put your CD player in and your amps in then done. No need to run extra wire for relays to power external eqs/ xover/ line drivers ect. and you wont have to worry about noise either. You also will have by far superior tunning options too.

It really wouldnt be that hard, for instance it could be very affordable w/ the kicker sx amps. Just add a digital input into the dsp (bypass the analog to dc converter) and it's done as the amp has to already have a digital to analog converter in it already.

heres and example...

Perfect accept they went crazy on the amps w/ things other then the dsp driving the cost out of the roof. Still no where near what they are charging...they also threw copper around, meaning they can charge another 2k per item lol.

RS- a9 ~$4,500
RS- a7 ~$2,700
headunit ~$1,800

The use of copper in that amp was to solve power supply noise transfer issues. PG did the same thing with Gold plated copper on there first flagship amp the 6300.
its purely used as shielding to block high frequency noise from the power supply.
Other than that, they used Beryllium Copper heat-sink clamps just to match the other copper in the package. < Visual highlights>

I have seen older Pioneer amps use this same thing in their amps from way back.
You see the same shielding designs in RF circuitry for radio and microwave circuits. It is a high design but standard for all radio circuitry. They just wanted a higher level of noise immunity via shielding.

Remember "ALL" switching power supplies are noisy from a electronic point of view. And I do mean all switching power supplies. And also remember that all DSP circuitry operates on high frequency clock based circuits that are high enough to induce electronics noise also, and they are also Susceptible to electronics noise.

On another note, It looks pretty :D
