Off to Cow Town.....

Post by HoseHead »

Tomorrow, I'm heading out to Calgary for a cuppla weeks and a half. I called National Car Rental and they're trying to find me a half ton with a gun rack. I already have a ridiculously oversized belt buckle and will wait until I arrive to purchase a cowboy hat. I heard they're cheaper out there. Do modern cowboy wannabe's still wear real cowboy boots or will construction boots do?

Well, I made it. Spent the day doing fucking U turns. The traffic engineers here need a slap and then a kick and another slap. And traffic cams and photo radar everywhere. No wonder there's a flood of cash in the Alberta Government coffers. I'm sure I'll contribute sooner or later.
Then once that is conquered, you have to deal with filthy rich Asians attempting to drive the biggest Mercedes' available. I ain't no biggot, but for traditionally intelligent folk, they got no friggin clue once there's a steering wheel in the equation.
And the agency gave away my Magnum and gave me a Ford Fusion. It's a chick car for sure. Feels like I'm wearing panties. Magnum or Charger to be delivered first thing on the morning.
Other than that, I'm having a wonderful day. first of 6 video rooms starts tomorrow. Tonight is for quaffin' a few pops....

BTW - That guy was outside the airport in Ottawa this morning. His name is Magic Moe......

Magic Moe must be the Canadian knock-off. That's the Bishop Don Magic Juan.

U-Turns?

I guess if you are used to cloverleafs above cloverleafs above cloverleafs on 10 lane freeways, the concept of a normal 4-way intersection is pretty awkward. Yeah, calgary is totally backwards. What makes more sense is that Eglington Ave is north of Dundas St, and both run E-W. Now that is pure logic!

What's even worse for you poor Ontarians is most (non-freeway/residential) streets here are numbered, so if you need to get to 16th ave N from 14th ave N, you have to go NORTH (or south from 14th ave S to 16th ave S). What are the odds. FYI all avenues are east-west, and streets are north-south. But you already knew that, being a flawless Ontario driver :)

Seriously, if you think Calgary is bad, don't go to Edmonton. Go driving down a 6-lane main route downtown, but if you follow the road straight, instead of following the 3-lane left turn, you're all of a sudden on a 1-lane dirt road. Lots of unlabeled traffic circles as well. It's a real joy. Almost as good as Toronto

What's with 16th Ave? The friggin thing was ripped up a year ago and it's still potholes and barriers. did thet forget thet tore it up? I got caught in it today and not one friggin piece of construction gear was operating.

But I did get from the airport area to downtown (11th Ave) in 15 minutes during "rush hour" this morning. I can live with that commute into the core.
