disconnecting the tweet from a coaxial

Post by oldskoolmseriesfan »

Ive got a small dillemma, Im running Focal Access comps up front. Ive got a set of Focal Polyglass 165v1 coaxials. Im going to do away with the Access tweet, and replace them w/a set of Vifas. I like the bass response of the Polies better than the Access, is there any way I can just disconnect the tweet from the coaxial and use it as just a midbass driver? there is a passive network integrated into the bottom of the speaker. I would like to do this if possible only because I dont have the money for a new midbass driver. Someone else is looking into this for me at the moment, the more input the better though, what do you guys think, has anyone done this b4?

You can probably do it, but it would require snipping the speaker lead that goes to the tweeter. It might depend on the crossover as well... if it's a 2-way or just a 1-way right on the tweeter.

I'd bet you could sell those coaxials, buy a better set of mids and still make a profit.

Id love to but I got them from the local shop for a rediculously low price because one woofer has a small screw driver hole in it  but it does not affect the performance, and it has not grown in size either.

Do you have anything intelligent to add to this Brian   Seriosly though, I am going to get rid of the Access comps and get a really nice mid. I have not listened to the rsd'c's yet, so until I do they are out. I do not like to buy speakers I have not listened to.They are going to be working with Vifa tweets. this is going to be my first fully active system, M25 to the tweets, M50 to the mids, and until I get the money for an M100 my sub amp will be my Audison SRX2S. Im throwing in an EQ215X and a Bass cube aswell.

Where is the screw driver hole, in the cone? The surround? It could be patched fairly easily if it's the surround but I dunno about adding weight to a cone, that could f-up a woofer if I'm not mistaken.

So, even with the hole, they perform up to spec? Interesting.

I'm wondering if removing the load (tweeter) from the built-in xover would mess up it up?

Again, we should probably meet up sometime so you can hear the RSd drivers. They aren't god, but they are quite good. I do only have the 6" model though, not the 6.5" which apparently has more midbass. I do want to play some more with my front/sub xover points though I think the RSdC woofers I have in there right now would sound good if I let them go up a bit higher (I think they are cut off at 80Hz now).
