okay as i mentioned briefly in other thread of smgreens... is that i am cleaning a cyclone and i have discovered that the guides or dividers between magnets are not looking so so great. Is this going to be a problem>???< anyone think??
see pic's...
but you will see that in second pic there is a cleaner part of the metal than everywhere else... is that something there that I shoudl be concerned about?? should i be trying to get all bare metal showing?? if so I will end up removing the verticle and horizontal guides ...
or am i okay to put this thing back together now??? AND do i have to do / is it highly recomended to apply the lacquer?? what purpose does t6hat serve?? i am guessing it helps prevent further breaking down of the magnets?? or is it somethign else?

Wow matt...what happened to that clone!?
My two clones don't look nearly like that.
Bogart and I will be posting some more info on the process of cleaning up the cyclones.
The ones we just cleaned, we replaced a bearing. Which may be causing issues on EVERYONE's Cyclones. Even without replacement the clones sounded fine, BUTTTT after replacement! WOW AMAZINGLY Different. So clean and so fluid. Bogart will have to BUTT in on the process. I took pictures of the steps taken. The Bearings are not EXPENSIVE...But not CHEAP CHEAP Either. Anyway I'll point you to the thread when I make it.
As far as the laquer goes, yes it was suggested to do that to protect the magnet from further degradation. So that may be something that needs to be looked at and is it really a good idea? If done right yes. The right laquer etc yes. But what REALLY is the right stuff?
Your clone magnet structure looks like it is tore up. So you took the Magnets and the magnet spacers off right?
It looks like the Spacers have left some sort of residue? IE: Paint or some coating!? So .....Do you have pictures of the magnets and the spacers?
Anyway other things come to mind here, Chris may be taking on work on clones that need to be fully stripped and bearings cleaned. We will post pictures, but this part is not exactly as simple as cleaning the magnet.
You'll have to ask him for questions on that. But he's pretty good at cleaning these now and replacing the bearings. Now we're working at replacing the gasket on one.

Hey matt....that motor is different then either that I've just done...the inner magnet appears to be there were screw holes in both of steves so that you could pull the plates off...that looks odd and the coating appears to be pulling back....hmmmm
I am not to sure what to make of it....do the edges feel brittle or is the war just from structural breakdown? I took one of steves all the way apart and cleaned it with brake cleaner and a toothbrush, then once it was dry wrapped and pulled masking tape till nothing else came off and it was good. Have to re lube everything and be careful if you do it as the shroud gaskets will peel up from the cleanser.
I would say use the varnish in very very moderate amounts. One of the ones that I just did had to much in it and it had gummed everything up and got in the bearings as well, but the one that wasn't varnished had a bad bearing to....did that one today. From what I have seen it really doesn't stop the breakdown of the motor once it starts...as I've looked at a few that had been cleaned and just sitting for 6 months had more debries in it.
If you do varnish it be sure to seal the bottom of the magnet up well as there is a bearing directly under it and it that goes the sub is pretty fucked considering that they can't be removed thus far...it is the only part that i couldnt break down....may be able to press it out but how I don't know yet as it hasn't been needed. Very light on the varnish...just a dusting of it...remember that you are dealing with the cyclones gap tolerance and any added thickness may effect the driver...if she rubs she'll short...been there and got shocked off of the poles...
