Considering the number of chrome and gold plated amps JOMA sells, I would think he is the one getting them refinished and that's probably a contributing factor to his prices. A new finish to cover the old shit up finish and BAM! the amp is suddenly "worth" a lot more.dBincognito wrote:ttocs wrote:a good time for jomas expertise......
He would just spray paint it gold
Seriously though....it does cost $$$$.....guaranteed that chrome plated ZPA that JOMA has....it was NOT CHEAP whoever got that done....it must have cost them as much as he is selling that amp for

As long as they do a good job refinishing the amp, it "should" add value to it....just as it would a home if you did improvements.fuzzysnuggleduck wrote:Considering the number of chrome and gold plated amps JOMA sells, I would think he is the one getting them refinished and that's probably a contributing factor to his prices. I have had things both Gold and Chrome plated and I can tell you IT AIN'T CHEAP....JOMA didn't chrome plate that ZPA, he picked it up off of CL that way a few months ago. But I am sure that he does pay for all the Gold plated items he sells and I'm sure it is a factor in pricing his amps

gold tends to discolor with constant heat...tarnish you may say...it looks great but manufactures never really did back in the day because it dulls with heat and with age really....the plating would be pretty cheap....it is so thin and it would be 10k if that or it would just squish around on it....if it is a mantle piece it would be a sight to behold but if you intend to run it then I would say don't do it....ms amps run a wee bit warm for it.....overtime it would look greenish gold around the hot spots on the amp
Joma does it for the ahhh factor and people will pay him three times what it cost have it done....and they will inevitably have a greenish amp.

It will NOT be cheap.....the gold will not varnish with heat......this stuff has to be electroplated on....before they can even gold plate it will have to be stipped and electroplated with a material that will even allow the gold to stick to it....greenish gold=fake plating.....this will NEVER happen with real plating......just look at any Orion GSX300.....the REAL REASON why manufacturer's didn't do it.....is b/c it IS SO EXPENSIVE.....that is all I will say on the subject....I have had it done SEVERAL times....to many different pieces....Gold, Nickel, Chrome......if you really get it plated....it will last FOREVER.....most companies didn't even plate their amps.....the vast majority of all of them are anodized or painted.....see this heatsink....the fan was Nickel plated...only the fan shroud = $60bogart wrote:gold tends to discolor with constant heat...tarnish you may say...it looks great but manufactures never really did back in the day because it dulls with heat and with age really....the plating would be pretty cheap....it is so thin and it would be 10k if that or it would just squish around on it....if it is a mantle piece it would be a sight to behold but if you intend to run it then I would say don't do it....ms amps run a wee bit warm for it.....overtime it would look greenish gold around the hot spots on the amp

I would have it nickel plated first, due to the shit being realy tuff and resistant to corrosion which is the biggest prob when gold plating is the material underneth the gold go's bad and bubbles up then it looks like shit..
I had a first series gs500,the big one.I took realy good care of it and it still formed a few spots, where a very minute scratch penetrated
the plating and it just grows..
heres a link that will change your mind about it being cheap to do...
http://texaspgp.com , goto the price page,1 rim/wheel will cost a minimum of $550+ AND thats if it has been factory chromed..
also dont use any kind of metal polish (mothers in lil white can) on plated items cause it will rub the gold right off!!!!!!!!!I did it to a monster batt terminal, the exspensive one with the compression fittings...pissed me right the fuk off! windex and the blue paper towels from autozone works great, and no rub off!

I´m back up here in CT now! My lovely appartment again!
I know that i´m looking at a big check!!! I just wanted to know if somebody in here had experience with it, or ever had a gold plated amp. With the gold fading out under heat i´ll i might think of something else! We will see!
