pg or hifonics? or is it a no brainer?!!

Post by marko »

as some of you may know i run hifonics viii amps and 90% through finishing the install, but every time i look at them they just bore me a bit and wonder why i just didn't fit pg amps (route66's and matching colour coded m100).

...so, do i keep the hifonics in or rip them out and go with the pg stuff? it would most likely be 2x rt66 for mids and tweeters and m100 for sub, way over kill and would mean modding the internal wiring for the rt66's so the channels can run independantly for active duties but visually would look sick

opinions?

I guess it all depends on whether or not you are ready for a change. What you have is working like you want it too, but you're just bored with it. If you have the time, money and knowledge to do something different I say go for it! You can always go back to the Hifonics if it does not work out how you want it to.

I am interested in the SICK look myself! And of course most of us here would be partial to PG equipment.

I know that era of Hifonics gear is decent....But if you are getting bored....switch it out! :)
I think it'd be a nice change.

the reason i went with the hifonics amps was they are very compact and fit under the false floor and the pg's wouldn't but i'm thinking just go for it and fit the rt66's on the side panels and still have a reasonably large load area just not as stealth!

it's not so much bored just always been playing on my mind that i didn't fit the pg's...

as for money/cost, all it'll cost is some mdf and metre of alcantara as i already have a metre i was gonna use for the false floor and i figured 2m should do it nicely.

before i got the audi i had a vision and this rt66 theme so sod it, i'm going for it :P

power wise, right now i have...

zeus 900wrms ...velodyne (limited anyway)
boltar 2x200wms ...midbass
thor 2x125wrms... tweeters

if i were to switch to pg i would have the following and still plenty of power i reckon and should have superior stereo seperation (one amp for left and other for right).

m100 500wrms velodyne
m44's bridged to power midbass so some channels not needed= easy life on amps and if i decide to go 3way front in future i'll have extra channels to do so!
m25's bridged on tweeters so again easy life on amps

Both setups sound great to me. I am very partial to stealth installs. However, you've always pulled off the showy installs in a very clean, usable manner.

Normally this would be a tossup for me, but I am less happy with Zed as of late  so I'll put in my biased vote for PG of course ;)

I think you should go for the Hifonics, and sell the Route M100 to me instead
Selling your Ti9 mids? PM me, please..

I also need a DD10...

Marko, do you really need an M25 bridged on each tweet??

You could run the whole thing off 1 RT66 and the M100 if you run your tweets in stereo off the M25??

This would also solve some space issues of trying to cram 2 x RT66's into your car.

if i'm gonna fit 1 rt66 i might as well fit 2 because the only place they'll fit is the side panels and it would look odd having just one on one side! the sub is staying in the spare wheel well and the m100 there too so no more room for a big amp on the actual floor hense moving to the sides.

besides, have you ever seen an install with 2x rt66's

Ummmmmm..... NO.

OK if you want the 2 amps for symmetry, then go for it. Shame about the unused amp channels left begging though
