Would it be fair to say that if you purchase a sub, you don't base it solely on sensitivity (DB rating)?

Here's a guy that claims that an IDmax is hands down a superior sub to a W6, only on the fact that IDmax has a higher sensitivity rating.

http://www.clublexus.com/forums/showthread.php?t=272199

He's the third guy posting (MJHSC400)

I like both subs and I actually own a IDmax and I liked it a lot when it was installed in my car, but I think his argument is WEAK because he doesn't account for other parameters such as linear x-max, displacement, resonant frequency and so on. I personally think that installation and power is more important.

He also claims that a IDmax would kick the crap out of a pair W6's.

I'm not saying that one is better then the other, but judging it on sensitivity alone seems a little dumb to me.

What an ass. I'm tempted to sign up and bitch slap him. SPL = SQ, uuuuuuhhhhh, NO! It does seem to appear, in my past, that the lower the SPL at 1w/1m the better the sub seems to sound, but not solely.
"ZPA's will have the same sound essentially as you get from the MS, they just feature a bigger shinier set of balls."

he is retarded....

if sen only matter then what most consider to be the best sub made, aura NS, would suck.

even tho I do prefer the MAX to w6v2 I may have to head over there.

Dynaudio polyglass 13" sub
focal makes the polyglass

more efficent a woofer is the more likely it is to roll off quicker then another woofer
Look for an old school MTX 1500dx
http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/JL_1000_1/

http://ampguts.realmofexcursion.com/MTX ... nside1.jpg

JL has regulated power supply and output stage. I'm not gonna get into the rest, as the jl has been proven to be far better already. Just look at the guts Jl far better amp.
a single 12 IDMAX will run circles around two 10w6's -- while playing FAR more musically-- it's a FAR better sub.

1 12" beign louder then 2 10" subs is wrong...

efficiency means they are also more musical
dead wrong....
The IDMAX is one of the cleanest and tightest subs out there today
missed a lot of notes the almapro alec rx and rsd hit....
I WAS basing my opinion on specifications-- AND, the idmax 12 will most likely be louder with the 1000/1 in the proper box vs. the two w6's -- it's more efficient-- FAR more efficient--
sd and xmax are about 10000000 times more important when figuring spl
The BL of the IDMAX is less than the BL of the 10w6 with a much larger sd, plus a 24.9 mm XMAX -- with a 2.5" peak to peak motor excursion capability.
not sure wtf he is talking about but if the w6v2 does have a better BL curve it would be a better woofer, as the BL curve is one of the largest factors in determing the HD caused by the woofer.

He is right there in one part, the infinity kappa perfect measures out AMAZING from some objective testing I have seen, only other objective test I've seen thats close is Peerless XLS/XXLS...

As for loudest, and 15 or 18 will be louder.

is that box w/ all the polyfil the ported....if so w/ that much poly, it's paratically going to act like a sealed box.

Also the port surface area is proably to small on that one box causing compreshion problems, which leads to a 2-3db lose in output.

Vin, tell him to come here, or post my response over there, just edit it first as i type like a jackass.

well i checked and he stepped on his own dick with the inacurate sens
measurement of the idmax

what a dumbass. missed my opportunity.

as far as the box with all the ply fill
it looks like he made a transmission line enclousre and stuffing teh
port will dampen teh system to play lower, so he didnt have to make the
line so long. but it still looks too short for any thing low.
