Swedish Pirate Party Wins EU Parliament Seat

Post by mr tibbs »

With the goals of reforming copyright law, trashing the patent system, and protecting citizens' right to privacy, Sweden's Pirate Party (www.piratpartiet.se) won a seat in the European parliament.

The surprise Sunday victory was the first for the 2006-founded single-issue party gained 214,313 votes on Sunday. or 7.1 percent of the vote, in Sweden, guaranteeing at least one seat in the European parliament located in Brussels. It was originally created as a reaction to Sweden laws to discourage file-sharing, which have affected torrent sites such as The Pirate Bay (www.thepiratebay.org) and put pressure on Sweden hosting providers to cut off torrent sites.

I'm sure this has pleased the FSM. Hopefully there will be less natural disasters this year.

I like the swing to the right going on over there.

Not sure where the pirates fit in, but they seem liberty oriented so cheers to them!
