Ti 1000.2 on the fritz

Post by maxdspl »

I have a Ti 1000.2 and a couple of curious children. They dropped a nut into the amp and it shorted out something. The tri lights in the middle stay on whether the radio is on or not. No LED's on the board come on. The fans do turn on when the radio turns on. But no sound. I found a couple of blown resistors and replaced them and a blown capicitor as well. Not sure what to do now.

Yikes... that is always tougher to diagnose. The surface mount components don't help either!

What area of the board was damaged? Can you get us some pictures?

Also have you checked the condition of the transistors, etc?

Find the SG3525ap PWM IC on the board. Check the DC voltage between pin 1 (+) and ground, check the DC voltage between pin 2 (+) and ground. Both should have approximately 2.5Vdc. If not, then check between pin 16 (+) and ground, it should have ~5Vdc. If not replace the SG3525. The only time I have seen the Tri LEDs and fans power up is when the PWM ic went south. Obviously there are other possibilities, but this is a good start. Do the checks at your own risk, the SOIC16 package that the newer PWM uses is tiny, if you short pins together, you will make things worse.

You dont have the OL or Thermal led lit on power up, do you?

Good Luck,
Jason
