won't that be the 3rd line of speakers that will be based on the quarts? I thought for a while there were actually two companies making vertually the same speaker under the same name?

Personally, I have never really been impresssed with quarts. They do great at low volume but as soon as you crank them up there was never any midrange....

RF based their Power range on the original Quarts,
then Maxxsonic bought the brand and did MB quart
now Maxxsonic own the brand MB Quart, but there was a management buy out of the original MB patents and designs , this is now re-branded as German M , the quart brand is still being sold by Maxxsonic , but are not based on the older stuff.

Unfortunately, it was a little bit different. When MB Quart belonged to Rockford Corp., a lot of mistakes were made, especially in the German market. After the bankruptcy in 2004, Maxxonics bought the company and they separated the brand rights from the company/factory.
In the following 3 years, the new German management improved the sales strategy for the German market, and at the point, where the German company was going to leave the red, Maxxonics managed it to declare bankruptcy for the German company with factory again.
It seems, that their long term plan was getting the brand name and then switching the production to China.

After that, the German management team and a lot of the employees purchased, with the help of a parts supplier, the factory. But since the Maxxonics separated the brand rights, they had to create a new name.

I can only recommend to give the new speakers a try, the new Mega- & Ultrasphere tweeter technology is very impressive, MB Quart tweeters = harsh doesn't hold true anymore.

harsh? I would call and have heard infinity called harsh but not quarts. I can remember a car we did for a guy back in the day with a zx950, 4 12" IDQs that he bought from us and then he brought in some quarts. We put them in and could not get them to sound good at anything more then a moderate volume as they would just start to sound hollow. I am sure it had nothing to do with the 4 12s(in an excursion) drowning them out but he kept comming back until he finally added a 30 band eq and it helped a little but....

Quarts have a good name from competition as they have done well over the years but SQ competition listening level is alot lower then most people wanna jam at. I don't understand why you wouldn't want a speaker that sounds good loud and soft?[/list]

I remember evry time I went shopping for components that I shied away from MB Quart due to not caring for the tweeter. I would use the words overly bright before harsh though. Always sounded tinny, and not very musical on the high end to my untrained ears.

I have run Quarts for years and I think the real problem is that most people try to run the tweets on axis which is not what they were intended for (remember these have been around since before custom panels were the norm) if run off axis with the -3 db setting on the crossovers I personally have never had a single person think they were bright in my installs but thats just my 2 cents :D

Before they were sold they lowered the xover point which they said took away the bright/harshness the tweets had. Their x'd over @ 2200Hz now.
