RJ-45 wiring colors for custom RDDP *UPDATED PICS!!

Post by knightrider358 »

Ok guys I know there is a "PG PIN OUT" spec sheet on here but I thought I would post a color code chart for everyone wanting to make their own RDDP in their own install/s. I know ttocs has been asking. I hope this helps anyone out their wondering what colors are what on a cat5/RJ45 cable.

Their are 8 primary colors in a CAT5/RJ45 cable. Brown, Brown w/white , Blue, Blue w/white, Green, Green w/white, and Orange, Orange w/white.(thats also the order of the colors in the cable end itself looking at the release tab side that plugs into any RDDP amp).

Now for using the status side of the RDDP port wire you'll wanna use all 4 colors with white strips for 1 tri-color LED as I did or 3 different color LEDS. Now the orange w/white is the positive for all 3 colors. The other 3 striped colors are negatives. The Brown w/white is for ON status LED. The Blue w/white is for Protection/Overload. Green w/white is for Thermal Mode.

Now for the voltage side of the RDDP port wire you'll wanna use is the 2 solid colors Orange and Green. Orange bein negative and green bein positive. Now I used a streetwires blue led voltage meter I ordered off ebay they also have a red LED meter too. Now that meter itself has 3 wires, Red, Blue, and Black. Now I soldered the solid green RJ45 wire to the blue remote wire on the meter for reading and amp turn on. Now I just soldered the red meter wire to a constant power wire and grounded the black meter wire. So now the meter reads the amp voltage and turns on only when the amp is on but even if the car is on but amp is off the meter is off.

This is a very cheap way of making your own RDDP. For example I spent $10 at walmart for a 14ft Cat5/RJ45 cable w/crimped ends. Then $6 for a tri-color LED w/ metal ring trim from radioshack. Then $15 for a streetwires blue LED voltage meter. All in all I spent roughly $40 for everything after tax. Now Im sure u can do all of this for about $25 with everything ordered online instead of buying a real PG RDDP for around $100 but I kinda didnt wanna use the mounting plate and wanted to see actual voltage of my amps instead of seeing voltage range LEDS.

Now the solid brown and solid blue wire will not be used at all for this type of install. But Im playing with the idea they are used for the real PG RDDP because that unit uses a tri-color LED for the voltage side of the RDDP I think they are used for 2 of the voltage range colors. When I find out Ill add to this posting what my findings are. Well I hope some of you guys will find this helpful. If anyone has any suggestions or anything please reply. Thanx again Jason.

you saved me an hour, glad I have not got the leds yet..... I too have been curious about those "unused" wires in the manual as well and also suspect they do the voltage led. I was guessing they use the same common wire as the other leds but wasn't sure.......
