Would you or would you not...

Post by onecrazy95civic »

The other day I was talking with a buddy of mine and he says to me to my biggest surprise “…your stereo system is mostly Ti so why don’t you go all Ti and sell those 2 PG Reactor amps of yours and get Ti ones…”. At first I laugh at him and told him “me sell my Reactor amps are you nuts!!!”. But then I saw that he was very serious about what he said, so laughing was no longer and we then start talking more seriously about what amp would I used to replace the Reactor ones, etc… and came up with this: 2 Ti800 one per subs, 2 Ti 500 to run the 4 set of Ti Elite 5m (I told him why not one Ti600 per set…) and finally 1 Ti400 (which I already have) to run the Ti Elite 9m. Further more to our discussion I said to him “while I’m at it why don’t I get TI12 Elite subs to replace my Ti15D subs…”. So my question is or should I say my dilemma is “Should I or should I not do it???” or “Would you or would you not do it???”.

You'll need to go with the (2)Ti 1200.1's for the Ti elite subs. Or one Ti elite sub with the (2) Ti 800.1's to each VC. One Ti 800.1 isn't enough to run each "fat bastard".

Yes, sell the Reactors....to me :)

If you go with something other then the Reactors, this project will take even longer and probably more $$$

Just finish it already - I want to see

The car is being painted as we speak (new pics are coming); the custom dash is near completion…as for if I change the amps…some of them would mount where the Reactors mount…because that was also part of our discussion where to mount the amps  :D !!!

your still in the same family of amp design from PG so I would say YES go with the complete setup.
Its purely a matter of your hearts desire, as the amps are of the same breed and culture from PG.
My friend The_Ill_Nana is just finishing up his car in all Ti and it was a bit of a search to get all the amps that would fit, but he thinks its worth it, and he even had his leather custom painted in the Ti color in his BMW. So it all looks pretty good. His car is the same color as the blue wire used in the older MS amps, along with Ti silver for the leather panels to go with all the Ti amps and support devices. And screens everywhere.

Good luck C

I agree with Bfowler. I love the Ti stuff, but the Reactors are so damn sexy.

I just noticed something, the Ti 800.1 is strappable. If you decided to go with one Ti elite sub.

no leave the system
the way it is, first of all its unique and if you change it tyou may have regrets.

second you will be in my boat...never done.

i think what you have is fuckin awsome and i wouldnt change it at all
keep the reactors and 15s.
the 15s will play louder and will be enough.

finish it and enjoy all of that time and money

aloha
You may have subs in your car........but my doors sound better!

In that case I would rather run one to each coil.

I vote for Reactors for what it's worth.

Would 1 Ti 1000.2 sufficiently power a Ti elite sub? Just curious

Would be ok, but to optimally run that sub you need at least 1500+. You would be better off getting a different sub ie...RSd or two.

If your gonna do the elite do it right. I kinda wish I would have done (2) X1200.1's instead of the (2) X600.1's. Like PG icy did.

After reading the responses, etc…YEP I’m going to keep my Reactor amps, after all they’re my babies!!! It was nice to dream about it, but with my girlfriend being very supportive of my hobby this one wasn’t going to fly  !!! The only thing I might still do is get another Ti EQ232 (already pick one up) to replace my Reactor finish ones unless I trade it…

The Reactors are far better build quality than the Ti’s, IMO. I don’t care for the Ti’s one screw board mounting, and knob configuration control, plus some other little details.

If someone gave me a brand new Ti600.2 in box for example, I would still get a ZX500v2 off eBay and run that.

You should replace the capacitors in your Reactors though. It would be very sad to see them catch fire and take out your install with smoke damage.

they are just known to fail with age. it is good preventative maintance. (in any older amp, not just that one)

Did you remove the capacitors and check for leaks? The only way to tell is to desolder them and look under each one.

Based on the age of yours, I would guess there is a 75% chance they need to be replaced.

This amp looked fine on the top…

Image

But when removed, you can clearly see it was leaking…

Image

It is just a matter of time until these capacitors internally short and catch fire.

Nope I just did a visual. I guess unless I remove the caps I won't know for sure, just by looking at them, if they're leaking or not. Plus I'm not sure if I want to take the chance and start removing caps, etc...So maybe not so good to go….lol…

What ever you do, you do not want to install these amps prior to resolving this. They don’t die from abuse, they die from age. After all the effort put into your install, it would be very sad to see the amps die and take something else out.

Besides, if they did die, you would likely hate PG after that and hold a grudge. I personally don’t want to see that either. Many other people who have had their amps burn get frustrated with PG, when in reality, it is simply because these amps are sold old and the particular model of capacitor used does not deal with age all that well.

Eric post up the photo of the amp that had leaking caps that burnt the board clean through.
