How will RSD 6.5s sound in IB
How will RSD 6.5s sound in IB
I know they are suppose to be sealed to get that incredable midbass, but I really want to mount them in the stock door location. The actual speaker itself isnot mounted to the interior door piece, but to the metal under the interior door piece.
If I was to completely sound deaden the doors, how would it sound?
The stock location is 5.25 so I already have to get the shop to make baffels to hold the 6.5s

Hey what did you mean by deflex pad, like dynaxorb?stipud wrote:No problem at all. They certainly don't need to be sealed to make a retarded amount of midbass. A bit of sound deadening, maybe a deflex pad, and you're good to go!
Is it pointless to put a deflex pad behind the speaker if all that is directly behind it is the water barrier?
And when people are saying IB, do they mean open-backed or does it mean open-backed and vented into the cabin somehow?

Yes, for an "infinite baffle" configuration you want to completely isolate the airspace in front of the speaker baffle from the airspace behind this plane. As long as this isolation is good and complete the driver will behave as if it's an incredibly large sealed enclosure. "Free air" is the term best used to describe a speaker that isn't in a sealed enclosure and hasn't been properly installed to isolate the speaker's front waves from the back waves. Or in other words, unless you go to great lengths on the install to completely seal off the plane the driver is mounted on in a door install then it's technically a free air setup.
