wow so many good suggestions.
jim still keeping it real. oh i didnt know julie was your wife.
i know i had to speak to a "julie" sometimes when i was at the pg dealer
for somethings i cant remember...
i see alot of reference to building the old ms amps. sad to say they were great during there time but there is better amps today.
what i would suggest is building an amplifier with the same goals as the ms amp
which iirc was "to build the finest car audio amplifer period"
today technologies with some great designing can make an amplifier with the same goal.
i agree with the symetrical look of the ms amp..those are one of the most nicest amps to look at...
imo that the new xi exile amps are very appealing kinda like the ipaul amps..simple, elegent and the brushed black is sweet.
pg really needs to go back to the roots..
wiring is a must and pg was tru ballahs when it came to wires, they would actually have liteture that would explain the importance of wires and alternators.. again back to what someone commented on about educating your customers or anyone for that matter.
i agree with the spl is more popular then sq. hands down it is.
jim i think putting out 18s is not a bad idea for a manufactor especially if they are good at making subs.
18s are not only for kiddies, i have heard 18s sound really good in cars.
and we both know this can be accomplished by proper system design and set up...do we wanna give up trunk room for a 18? probably not, but there is no 10 thats gonna give that gut wrenching kick like a large sub..
sound wise yeah i heard 10s that can play deep and still preform but it has it limits...
a good example of this is the TI elite. i have yet till today heard a 12 that plays low freq as effecient and with authority like that 12 does...but the trade off is it doesnt do very well on the upper more common bass notes.
so i have bass toned down and midbass drivers are my relying force for impact..
i wish u guys could actually hear this thing in my car, its very impressive for a single 12 running off of 2 ms 2125s. iirc i did 136db on a termlab at 30hz...illhave to verify that though
verified
Gaby 131.4 / 25hz (PG Elite12, 2x PG MS2125 400x1)
Gaby 132.0 / 26hz (PG Elite12, 2x PG MS2125 400x1)
Gaby 140.7 / 30hz (PG Elite12, 2x PG MS2125 400x1)
it shakes walls when it hits and can be heard and felt..i built this system because some but nut on a lex forum told me i cant fit 5 cubes in my lex trunk...fked him all up.
then some other ass fart said i couldnt hit over 135 with my 12 running less then 1000 watts so i replied to him with not only will i but ill do it at a frequency way lower then 50hz.
i spent 2 days just designing this box on box programs and i took rta readings of the car to figure a common transfer function to kinda get me in a ball park figure..my ulitmate goal here was to make this thing play extremly low and loud with less then 1k in power.
since i had the equipment i just needed the time.
but anyway im drifting
i just wanna say jim there is some really good 18s and though they dont sell alot maybe in your market because your market is of the higher tier and the cars im sure u work on dont have space to throw away for that limits u to being more practical with the fact that these people have money and trust u to make there cars sound perfect..which is good.
i personally feel there is a market for larger woofers and they are not just for the kiddies but for everyone who wants some real kick.
oh btw didnt jl market 18s couple of years ago and i think the shop we were at sold more 18s then the 15s w6s and w3s..i know i was getting tired of trying to fit 18s in civic hatchbacks..
again like i said earlier
pg can make a comeback but i think that someones rebirth comment is just what it needs...
k I S S is another aspect that should be concidered...
i would like to see a oem intergration product much like a rf 360 in that lineup..
but 5.1 shouldnt be a big factor as i agree that 5.1 in car is not taking off, maybe just offer it as a plug in or something like that.
keep the amp lineup and sub lineup simple, medium , pimp..
when actually designing the pimp amps i think one thing should be kept in mind, upgradability.
make the audiophile amps really good so that u really dont need to change them every 3 years. that i think would keep cost down on R&D
good example is the MS line, they updated boards but it simply was still teh same amp minus some different parts or mods. didnt that amp lineup run for about 6 years.
shows consumers that "hey that amps 4 years old and still on the market"
must be good.
i still like the whole zapco dc ref style of amps and the features are sweet.
just make them sound better

( i dont mean that ina bad way those amps are nice)
jim i would love to actually audition audison, and if i make it to ohio( my younger brother lives there, drives truck up and down the coast) i am gonna come knocking on your shop door and demand a listen
im glad that phoenix gold can get a chance to come out of the ashes and
make a difference.
i have really alot more suggestions but my fingers are sore..
aloha
OH PG should rehire Larry F. complete the circle...
