Amp recommendation setup for new system build?

Post by STROKD »

So, I might just possible be getting a new style Corvette, and already have the stealth box for it on the way. They come with 10W1s, but this one has a 10W3v3 wired for 4 ohms swapped into it, and besides +.02 more displacement difference, the speakers use the same airspace... The sub is rated for 500 rms max, so Id like to give it around 300-400... the car is a coupe or hatch back and the sub fires direcly into the glass (+3 db gain! )

I will be running 6.5" Focal Utopias in the front doors, and 5.25" Utopias in the back. Deck is either, one of my Denons, or an IVA-W200 with a PXA-H701 processor.... if I go with the Denon, I'd have to use a cross and EQ combo from PG (230+ 406A)... which would yield more wiring and weight, both of which I dont really want in a Corvette.

I think the IVA with a processor will sound good enough, plus Ill have navi, ipod and DVD... since this will be my daily, the navi would come in real handy... also this car has no cats and it has headers, so its going to be loud as hell, so the noise floor will negate any SQ diff I will notice with the Denon I think. :|

Anyway, my problem is what amps to use. I could use my FAS, or Off Roads, or what I was thinking was my MQ 430 to the rear speakers bi-amped (the crossovers have bi-amp capability) or bridged, but Id rather Bi amp em... My MS2250 TA or original Ms2250 to the front speakers, and my MS275 bridged to the 10... this would all match, be a simple wiring job and I wouldnt need a cap or power core since the sub amp is so small... I would think this would be very efficient and sound really nice.

What does everyone think? All my amps are in my sig, so any combo would be nice to think on, BUT I want em to match...

Please also keep in mind, I need space to keep the top in the trunk so I cant go higher in the floor than about a foot, and it also has a nitrous bottle back there, so I have to have space for that...

Thanks PP!

How about FAS (430 to power both sets of tweets, 2125 to power rear mids), 2250TA to drive front mids, 275 on sub.

Or MS1KTA to run fronts and rears, and MS275 for sub?

So many options with all those dope-ass amps. :P

In that car, don't bother with rear fill at all. It will only cause harm to a proper stereo image. Rear fill is pointless unless you have a large sedan/SUV and frequent rear seat passengers.

I think one of your offroads would be a perfect fit to power the front stage and the sub, however the "offroad" designation doesn't really match as well. However, being a more modern amp does have its advantages... better crossover, higher voltage inputs, etc.

Alternatively, use your FAS to biamp the front speakers and run your sub out of the single amp. Just make sure you have your caps replaced, since it would be a major bummer to have that amp burn up on you. You would however need an external crossover for the setup, and no more than 2 volts RMS signal input.

the caps have been replaced, some time ago, but it hasn't been used much since since it was in my race car I only drove 1000 miles a year for about 5 years...

I have the processor, so I wouldn't be worried about the crossover if I went that route, but using a TI amp would be the same way... rather use the digital processor and 30 band eq through the touch screen...

i want the stereo louder than hell, u still dont think if I had the gains set right that the rear speakers would help fill? I always set my gains till u can barely hear the speakers, but when u fade off of em, it sounds empty... I like the surround style of stereo and not the Im listening to stereo speakers in my house sound... :o This is also why I dont want to run the front and backs on the same amp, because I want to be able to run the fronts 2-3 times louder to hear the stage in front of me, instead of at my shoulder...

going to the LS darkside eh...nice

yeah, i would do just the offroad and run the 6's up front and the other side bridged to a sub.

unless you want to go with a 6-5-1 upfront...

Brian, would u recommend runnin a three stage in the front? Hell I could even put the other tweeters there and run two sets of comps as well I guess... I have another set of Focals I could put there too, but I dont think 2 6.5 sets will fit up there, without hacking out the door, and Im not cutting a thing on this car since I only plan to keep it 2 years at the most till I get a Caddy V or a Z06. Sooo many options, Im just not sure which is best. Only want to build it once, not take it apart and swap amps twice a week.

Ok so thinking on it... what about this...

Both Offroads, passive, no crossovers used in em... wire like this.

1 150x2 to front tweeters
1 150x2 to 6.5 mids in front
1 150x2 to back 5.25 components
1 150x2 bridged to the sub

all crossover done through Alpine.

Howd that sound? I could put one Offroad on each side of the bottle that way on small boards, all the rest of the trunk would be empty.

quit trying to put stuff in the back!

if you are gonna do both offroads:

1 150x2 to front tweeters
1 150x2 to 6.5 midbass in front
1 150x2 to FRONT mids in kick panel
1 150x2 bridged to the sub

plus when you got the z06 you could just swap the custom kicks in to the new one
