2010 Porsche 911 Carrera 5.1 Audio System

Post by jbondox »

here is the layout of what I recently accomplished in the clients new Porsche, he is a producer of 5.1 audio, so let me just explain how critical this system needed to be... I was at the studio listening to some of his reference material, and I had to make the small cabin sound like the studio reference.

yes, I succeeded. I had to play around with the rear fill alot! I started with speakers in the factory sides...fail, then I went with them on the enclosure with the tweeter forward... fail, then with the tweeter reversed to the back... that was a win, though I had to rebuild the box... 3 boxes were built for this vehicle! anyways I am posting pics up on my site, and will be up and running hopefully in a little bit.

I want to say that Hertz, when they redesigned the hi energy line succeeded with the utmost of flying colors. the HL70, which I was not a huge fan of last year because of the bright sound, is just out of this world! I vote it my favorite driver! I am using them in the front doors and the center channel. it has a freq response of 200-14k hz... and will get further down than 200hz easily... unbelievable!

the best sounding vehicle to date.

I used 80 sq ft of hushmat ultra and 60 sq ft of hushmat foam silencer megabond, a mixture of 1/8 and 1/4 inch thickness

LOL it is just supposed to be a simple system, no flash, maximize space, and make it sound good... I will keep in mind the Canada trip... you guys still extradite LOL

Thanks, but I wish it could of been more, something more flashy or less... especially the woofer enclosure... but I am not re-doing it again...

did I ever tell ya's the wood shop is upstairs? 20 steps to the top...

looks greats as always james. Upstairs woodshop? I was thinking about all the shops I went to that always had some kind of pain in the ass involved with the woodshop(too small, small openings, no storage or dust collection) but if I had to carry my shit up and down a flight of stairs would make me wanna hire an assistant.

I started off installing in indiana, farm trucks and mainly domestics. When I moved to phoenix in 2000 I got into a shop in scottsdale and got to work on my first porsche, a 911 cararra 4. I was anxious to help and asked what I could do to help and they said run the power wire for the amps. Sounded simple enough but of course with my experience after 20 mins I had to ask how....... Learned alot installing there, the next day infact I learned how to open the door to the ferrari 355 spyder and the rolls royce's fuse box door. only took me 5 mins each but I didn't have to ask for help! maybe someday I will have a car that will not taint your bay and be able to afford a killer system from you.

Nice work. Quick question, How do you like the output you are getting from the JL TW5?

output is pretty good, does the job. It was my first time using it, and it can rock pretty good. I have no complaints. However the vehicle is geared towards SQ, and a lot of it. the sub is barely audible the way i have it setup, which is what we want. just the lower end to fill out the front stage

elise is for sale, I have done a few already, nothing major. We are a lotus dealer

Sorry about the above post, but anyways, setting up the Porsche was a bit of a pain... however for the final reference I got to use his studio :) So this was a really critical installation and tuning

here is a pic of what I had for reference...

Thanks bro, if I were to redo it, i would incorporate the factory grill and LED as one. actually, the piece that you see was just a test piece. I was trying to route the center out on the drill press but I destroyed it, but since it was 3/4 I flipped it over and took it to a router and did a pretty good job, but since it took so long with the router because I had to hold the router on the table and the piece at the same time so i can see what I was doing...very unsafe... I decided to use it. I wanted to do it in 3/4 aluminum, but when i started the MDF piece it was 9PM, and I needed some new router bits... no 24 hour home depot here...
