Questions about broken 0.3.

Post by BigDaddy »

I found a ZPA0.3 fairly local to me and I am just waiting for pictures. The guy says it is mint(although I still don't know what color it is),has all parts and is in the box. The only problem is he says it wont power up. No lights and no sound. I thought it might be something easy like the plexi safety screw or the fact that he might not have been using a line driver. After thinking about it I don't think those will be the problem.

I'll post pics of the board when he gets them to me but I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has any ideas. Is there some sort of safety in these amps that is designed to fail and be replaced? As you can tell I'm new to the internals but thought this would be a nice learning project if he sells it cheap enough.

Thanks.

PLease keep us informed, as these are my fav PG amps. Got a 0.3 and 0.5 in white.
"ZPA's will have the same sound essentially as you get from the MS, they just feature a bigger shinier set of balls."

I've always loved these amps as well but if I get this one then it will be my first. My collection so far is all MS and MPS.

Well he said he took pictures but now can't find the USB cable for his camera. I hate waiting. Hopefully I'll have the pics up tomorrow.

Morning,
Well first off Zero Points are really fine amplifier. I own 3 mint in the box 0.5's myself, and I got a friend that has 6 BNIB.
As for them being a "learning project" well they are a fairly complex design, and I would not recommend using such a finely made instrument as a teaching aid.

I have repaired one of mine, and although I enjoyed the experience, it is not for the untrained, or week of heart.

Most folks here know me pretty well, and I have helped a few guys out here and there replacing a power supply, some caps, and fans, etc...
But depending on your experience level, this could develop into good sized headache for you.

Yes, it might be the plexi cover switch, but don't count on that. It might be as bad as a blown channel, and power supply. If thats the case you've got yourself a sizable repair on your hands.

PG has very reasonable rates, but if you have the time more than the money, I will try to be of help to you.

:D
