ZX500 Sub amp: 2 Ohm or 4 Ohm ?

Post by Pillow »

Just a quick check to see if it is wise to run a ZX500 bridged mono into a 2 Ohm load?

I know it is happy at 4 Ohm... But will 2 Ohm bridged burn it up? Add more input power and up the fuses?

The sub is being reconed so at this point I can choose what Ohms to set it up for. The ZX500 will be driving a single Treo 18" SSI.

Thanks!!!

In the bottom description it is like they designed it for 2 Ohm since it is current limited!

... You gotta squeeze it for everything shes got ;)

The ZX500 is the only ZX amp with no internal fuse. If you put the rated external fuse on it, then run it at 2 ohms and blow the fuse, you either need to back off on the gain, or run it at 4 ohms instead.

I think the fuse for it is 80A, but don't quote me.

Hmmm, so you think 4 Ohm bridged is the better way to go then?

If it were my amp I would run it 2 ohm bridged.

LOL. That is what I was hoping to hear :) Probably good for a few "free" watts!

If it's anything like the M series amp it will do a 2ohm bridge, it will heat up a lot faster, but will still be safe. We used an M100 on 3 woofers without issues
