new truck (again) LOL

so i purchased a new truck a few months ago, i figured id drive it for a while before i started messin with it LOL you guys know how often i trade vehicles, kinda like underwear

so i have no audio gear right now, and since i really LOVE this truck.
i will start aquiring stuff for it.

the truck is a 2005 GMC sierra 1500 SLT crew cab.
has the bose factory stereo in it which is going into the wifes burb.

i want to run a single 12 and probably a good 4ch for the 12 and fronts.

i want some opinions since space is kinda lacking for a 12. i will also post pics, of availible space to work with.
my creative mind is drawing a blank so i need your guys help.

this needs to be SQ oriented of course but it needs to get a lil nasty too

We did 2 - 10 " PG XS subs and a Fosgate punch 200 in my buddies 05 siverado crew cab . Stock everything else .

IT sounds good . If you decide to go with just subs , PM me and I can get you the colors of the wires to tap into .

exile xi 800.4 (these are super install frindly! you might even be able to fit it under the passenger seat...)

pg rsdc12, (or even the rsdc10...they fuckin pound...i would pit one over the ti12 i sold you back in the day for instance....)

the exile xpe12 is a great sub too...i still have contacts over at exile (now that morgan isnt there) if you want me to facilitate

Space is real tight behind the rear seat so and RSDc would probably be out of the Question.

I like Clarions shallow mounts. Two 10's w/an amp capable will do nicely. I did an install in my friends 06 Sierra CC Z71, a single TREO TSi10.44 in a box built for a rear center console.

thats a nice lookin box/console.......but i cant afford to sacrifice rear seat space, as i have 3 kids.


but i have a idea to run by you guys for opinions.

no i dont want to cut the rear of my cab out to put a box in the bed......but i would be willing to replace the back glass with lexan, and run the ports through the lexan glass into the cab. if i can make it sound right!!!!!

my thoughts were to do a double enclosure bandpass or isobaric box on a single or maybe a pair of 12's and figure out a way to tune the ports while running them through the lexan rear windows. that wouls also free up space under the rear seats for proper mounting of amps and such.

Thats a pretty crazy idea. The ports would have to be pretty long to reach the windows, so the tuning frequency would be low. Or you could just run bigger ports to offset the length... Hmm...

i was kinda thinkin of putting the box on a platform so i can mount it as close to the top of the bed as possible then that should shorten the length of the ports some what. but your right it would be a low frequency so they would have to be a good size diameter to get a higher freq...........


anybody have a design program that could figure port size and tuning frequency??????

the only reason i dont want to cut out the cab is resale value.......

Would you be willing?????? to.... instead of replacing the rear window w/lexon, be willing to drill two 5" holes through the bed and back of the cab?

A friend of mine (Back in 95) has a Chevy 454SS 1500 truck and built a bandpass box for two 15" Volcano's and ran the ports through the bed/cab of the truck (using that black drainage plumbing that you run under the ground in your yard) and covered the box in bed lining.

On the inside of the cab he put 6 1/2" speaker grilles over the port openings. It really looked as if he had rear speakers there. Sounded really good IIR.

Just a thought.

First off twisted what is your budget? and how big/loud are you wanting? First you will need a decent size port to eliminate port noise (I recommend a large square/rectangular port). Second you will need a gasket system that will seal the port and the windows to eliminate leakage. The port will need to move slightly (during take off, braking, and turns), being that the bed and cab are not technically connected.

I like your idea of replacing the rear window with lexan and doing a port through design. I enjoy a good challenge. To take it one step further I would build the box as a 6th order bandpass and have both ports going through the rear window.

Now to find a sub that will do well with the port sizing requirements. Good luck.

What kind of space do you actually have behind the rear seats and/or under the rear seats?

I thought that there was a hidden sub for that truck, JL maybe? but that goes back to budget.

If it were me, I would try to find the space for a pair of the fosgate slims or the SI BM. I will be putting a pair of the fosgate 12" slims (http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products ... &p_status=) in a reg cab 78 chevy pickup in the next month or so for a friend. he bought them before the BM was released

my budget will be what ever i spend really.......theres nothing set in stone.
if my wife says theres extra audio or gun money that i can use then i either save it for later use or i spend it, if theres enough for what i want at the time.

under the seat has a decent amount of space but i will also need some where to mount amps and cap with plenty of airflow.

the fosgate stuff is outta the question as i dont like anything that has come from fosgate since about 99!!!!!!!!!!

if i did a single amp i could maybe fit a rsd 10 under the other side of the rear seat, but im thinkin i want more than a 10.

that SI looks like it could be a option, if sound quality was decent enough.
i dont want a sloppy muddy bass sound really.......which is also why im thinkin the box in the bed and ported throught he back glass isnt the greatist idea as well.

I would have to agree with you here - while others may disagree with my opinion - I have never been able to get tight/accurate/SQ style bass from a bandpass enclosure, and my opinion would be to avoid them altogether for SQ applications

Yes , But it is a VERY basic install . Its all function and no show LOL

so ive finaly figured out i can only fit about 5 1/2" deep sub so the RSDc's ar out.

i have also picked up a O/S orion xtreme 600.4 amp for this build.
but i have to get a lil repair done on it......it is the same 1 i bought NIB last year then sold
but it is still a ORION built amp and not DEI.
i also got a xtreme 300.2 from the same guy that needs 2 output fets replaced. not using it in the install though.

now i need to pickup a 12" sub and a low buck H/U
