mmmm...I love the smell of burnt electrolyte in the morning

Post by bogart »

ok guys...here it is....I am shamed on this one...

it was pissing rain out and I saw it in the crate in the trunk of a jetta...I didn't pull the braces at all or I would have seen the ding in the front....

got it home and saw that...then I took a wiff and nearly wretched...opened it up and parts of burnt board and caps started falling out....I did get both for 300 when the other amp was covered in dust bunnies so it isn't an absolute loss...the 2500 is looking better everyday....

this is toast...I doubt I could repair it beyond new boards...would really have to cut a new board to bridge in to a good cutting point and it burnt good and hot....the m 50 looks like the transformer is toast....the board under it is...I figure and m50 and a new m100 and it would be a mediocre outlaw...great toss it in and run it outlaw but minty she'll never be ....could powdercoat...or send it to jacamph to cut the face and built a sick ass plexi and have our very own Matt pc it for a bad ass custom job....be slick..I don't know...as stated it is Itchys....if it was mine I would harvest the boards and have the case on the next thing to Jason...board swap is easy and could get in to both amps pretty cheap.....dead m100 on the bay and i can get an m50 back on a trade if I must but I'd have to give up something cool for sure....Leeds....but it ain't mine...less itchy wants to work something out cause I kinda like that idea....

so the outlaw is being stalked all over Itchy......oh.....yeah...numbers don't match between the amp and the crate...

if it works out and all that- I could really use a brass insert for DDD's outlaw i am working on- one of his is stripped and i was going to just swap/flip it around and hard wire the speaker out to the brass insert so the screw would work in the front end... IF whatever hapopens to this and is possible i know DDD would appreciate it...

Just one brass insert for speaker terminal- but do what you guys are gonna do- but keep me and DDD in mind if possible that would be shizam

BUT for all intents and purposes- i think it could be restored fairly easy enough-

Thisk i thought i saw an m100 on the bay recently as a damged 100- but might have been sold... iirc

is your m50 with you? I should snag the one on ebay up cause if it isn't toasted like the I can rework the board....not much I couldn't do on an m100 as I repaired all the ones I had minus the one I got from Jason....

well i typed all that before you guys went off that idea...

but/and again i think it can be restored... think jason is man for metal fab... and if you want it anodized or pc'ed (keep in mind only aluminum can be anodized), i can make it happen what ever color scheme you would like itchy

my guess would be that the amps were tied together with no or improper fusing...dead short a cable and good bye power supply....he was a redneck that half acted like a mandingo....is that politically correct? I guess wigger from a town of 4000.....and he came in a truck and then the amps came in a car...it was fucked.....

thought I was meeting at a house and took my multi and tools....but no....he was a dumbass

I suspect that he killed the mps....ran it at four ohms and thought no power...clipped it to oblivion....I didn't even realized it was an mps till misfire came down and I asked him bout the funny end plate....ha ha ha...shit I'd never had one...had no idea!!!!

well, if we're going to change the boards, guess we could use the other as spares for whoever really needs them o get an amp working, not just to have as spares ...

the audio paths are fine...a little discolored but the fuses saved the audio side of the boards....

most component will most likely test within tolerance.....I can use a great deal of that to get dead amps going....if we are parting them out I want the actual dead board for resistors and the bjt's......if used in the same series they will help to test amps to locate issues....then install new parts...it is handy....i've got some spare outlaw parts around here too

and if people need the m, tantrum, and some ti speaker terminals I have bags and bags of em in white....a few in black....just to toss that out there...let me know....I am all for assisting folks with their endeavors.....

we should actually start a thread....more a co op for pg guys and techie types for projects...it is becoming more and more common for folks to start this kind of stuff and it would be a big help to people trying to learn and get involved in this hobby

i have the artwork ready to go (well sorta anyways) NON-oem as shown in other threads... but that was at the request/directive of the member that wanted that done.
I have the mesh
i have the frames

I need to mount the mesh on frames, and find someone to expose the artwork to screens.

PROBLEM I am finding #1 is the cost, time and cost of time. and time to go through and trace all that OEM artwork, and get it set up... i have a table i built just for it to do that stuff, but need to get some plungers to/for registration for the frames to sit. and find someone that can stretch the mesh onto the frames...

AND that fricken ink is so damn expensive... in order to get the detail we want you have to have like 355TPI or better- I have 405, and the ink that will pass through those small of holes is very costly- and the ink to go onto acrylic is even more costly and gallon is minimum order $308/gallon

someone has done it before - think spirit... his silk-screen that did should have the artwork we need- or better yet the screens- SS'ers typically keep that shit around so they dont have to keep doing it- unless he felt confident that he would never do it again

It's a lot of work... i would like to find a different way of applying the artwork- I think perhaps a template of sorts and airbrush it on- i dunno, but i think making one template that can be used and used and as different colors as the job demands is best most economical way
