phoenix gold titanium 500.4 fan question

Post by noeg »

Hello,im a newbie here, just wanted to know if the fan on the ti 500.4 comes on when you hook it up,or is it to come on when its getting hot,is it in a speed control(speeds up as it gets hotter).I just picked up one that has been around the block...Sending it for repair due to rear channels failing,i managed to make one work after moving the rca hook up...My jl amp works perfect ,so i know everything is hooked and working right(no bad rca cables ) :)

fan should come on right away with throwing juice to it, i believe they speed up as they get hotter. but ti owners could chime in and confirm for you

It should turn on immediately at power up. Also the fan is supposed to be a variable rate depending on temperature.

Ok,i also have a zx475,i had it hooked up but i never remember seeing the fan come on when i hooked it up,now im wondering if the fan is not working in the zx475,any titanium owners out there?...now i remember the amp shutting down and i took it off because my 06 jeep grand cherokee has a tight space in the cargo area where i had it .there was hardly no space for air once i put the cover that my jeep has,if by chance anybody has a jeep they know about this.Thats why i decided to take it out ,i was thinking i did not have enough air to the amp,and cause it to shut down?

The amp would go into thermal protection... But should not kill itself.

... Then again they are olderish amps so who knows what they have been though over the years.

Pillow what i remember it would turn of the sound,i shut my stereo ,let cool off and the it would start again, again i thought i was starving the amp for air ,but now i dont remember seeing the fan ever come on,i may hook it up just to find out if in deed the fan is out on the zx475.

as someone else stated the fan is a variable rate unit and will speed up when the amp gets warmer. If the amp gets hotter than what the fan can compensate for, it will thermal.... this will only last for around 15 secs and then the amp should again begin delivering music to your speakers. If the fan is not coming on upon being powered on via remote signal from your head unit it's fubared  .
screw car audio, I'd rather go fast....errr, wait a minute.
