Need advice for setting up a PG ZPA system

Post by ssthump »

hi there, i have been out of car audio for ten years now and i am interested in putting together another system and i would like to use quality that i have used in the past, so i would like to do another system using ZPA amps, and i would like to run a ZPA 0.5 to the subs and then run two seperate ZPA 0.3 amp to the two sets of seperates and i would like to know what i would need to be able to do this as i know that the ZPA amps dont have built in crossovers, so any help you can give me would be greatly appreciated, thank you

I think you can get xover modules for the ZPA amps but I do believe they are rare now and so you're probably better off some with kind of active xover. What kind of xover you need depends on if you are running your components sets active or passive. A decent HU with three RCA outputs and good xovers should do you fine in that department. If your HU only has one or two RCA outputs, you'll need something to split at least one of the RCA runs to drive all three amps.

You'll *definitely* need some kind of line driver that can drive at least 8V into the ZPAs. A TLD66 should do, I think. They accept balanced signals, too.

The ZPA manual has some example system configurations:

the zpa internal xover is called zpaxo and there is a black 0.3 on ebay with one right now  there are not a lot of decent xovers out there like back in the day. i heard the memphis one is decent. for head units alpine cda 9887 pioneer deh p800prs and eclipse 7200mkii all have 3 way xovers built in.

look for a zpx2 electronic xover with balanced inputs and outputs via r45 jack like found on the zpa amp, plus it looks like a mini zpa amp or the zpaxo like mentioned earlier in the thread, which works great also...

Unless you can source an old school Eclipse CD8601 head unit (with 8V preouts on them)... you'll DEFINITELY need line drivers.
