T-Nuts

Post by 12voltjunky »

 never thought I'd need to ask about my nuts....

What size T-Nuts should be used for
mounting a sub in a new enclosure?

I'm using 3/4" MDF and a 12" sub...

awe, thanks for the ups mando!

the 10/32 is my favorite becasue you can't quite fit a 1/4 in most subs (which is what i used in that link)

the 10/32 bolts are sometimes hard to find too :(

if you havnt bought them already the hurricane nuts are better then the t-nuts especially in mdf where the spikes have a hard time sinking in.

i have a bunch in a bag if you can't find em and want me to send a few your way

Man, that would be uber cool. But I just got back from the hardware
store where I bought a dozen tee nuts.
I don't want to impose on your stash...but...if you wanna donate
some hurricanes I will use them in my upcoming, first attempt,
1/4 wave TL enclosure :D

...do I have to use the nut on the other
side of the wood to have the tee nut work properly?

Yep, you drill a hole through that the nut can barley fit into, then press the tnut or hurrcane from the back with a c clamp, or use one of the bolts with a large washer to pull the nut into place

I use 10-24, but 10-32 is the same diameter.

You can buy t-nuts and hurrricane nuts fairly cheap at www.partsexpress.com
Check my buyer/seller ratings http://phoenixphorum.com/gridracer-vt4548.html

Don't get ripped off on them, ace hardware has a great selection with ok prices but you shouldn't be more then $4-5 into them and the screws there.
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Here's a build I did 18 months ago. Look further down to see close ups of T-Nuts. These Boston's WILL NOT come loose.
