Building the shrouded DFAS#1-done-
Here´s shroud number 2 in plain gloss wrinkle black right after i painted it. The paint will start to wrinkle overnight. Will be ready for glitter and 2 layers of clearcoat tomorrow! I decided to go with 2 black shrouds now as the gold metallic didn´t meet my expectations.

I for one, LOVE
the looks of the Black one.
My only complaint is with the Gold one, should've used multiple coats of primer. I could still see the welded area w/ease. After welding for 10 years, my eyes are drawn to things like that.
Overall, GREAT job man.

Thanks for all your replies! I´m glad i finally finished this project!
Time will come and this baby paired with it´s twin will start working in my car! I sandpaperd the golden shroud again yesterday and will paint it the same wrinkle black during the weekend. Then it´s up to Matt getting my second MS1000 sink franked and ship it to austria.reallyxxxxxxloud wrote:I like the effort that has gone into this project- how about some photos of it installed!!!!

I´ll leave the grilles white because they are in perfect shape! Plus it lightens up the huge black shroud a little.Stryker wrote:duuuuuuuude!!!!!!!!! WOW is all. Only thing, and I mean only thing would be to have the end grills another color other than white. even still thats so kool!
GREAT JOB.....

My welding skills are limited but i did the best i could. The gold shroud is no more. Didn´t meet my expectations when i saw it in the sunlight for the first time.smgreen20 wrote:I for one, LOVEthe looks of the Black one.

Shipping a regular shroud over the pond and back to austria is arround 160USD. The big sucker would be even more expensive. Getting it franked would be another 150 to 200usd i guess. That would leave me with a total of rough 300 to 350usd to get a shroud coated. Not worth it in my mind even tough in know Matt does awesome powdercoating jobs.wash with gasoline wrote:Ass bad ass as this project is ...and it is BAD ASS![]()
Why not just bite the bullet and have the shrouds franked to?![]()
Any way you go with this im totally jealous!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That would work out to be about the same price rangestipud wrote:Why not get it done in Austria?joerg wrote:shroud over the pond and back to austria is arround 160USD. i would coat the shroud franked for you for 125 then maybe if you wante dthe grills a different color (i.e. make the grills on the ends pink or blue to match/tie in the flake of the frank) add another 25- or just do it all franked- BUT BUT it's entirely up to you...
BUT REMEMBER you do already have a bunch of shit heading your way anyways so it could (or other stuff could howvere one looks at it) could piggy back its way back with the shroud... which is an expense already in the works.
BUT BUT i perfectly understand the fact of $ and time...
i can appreciate that- BUT did want to correct/pin down that figure for you just as an FYI

Not knocking your welding skills, from what I can see you did a decent job. If you do it again, stitch weld the seam. It'll take a bit longer but the metal wont warp. I'm not sure if did that or not, just a tip.
I wasn't so much for the Gold one either, but it's not mine. I, on the other hand, like the ends in White against the Black. I'm not sure how to describe the way it appeals to me.
