The RFD is also known as the Punch HX2. It is just below the Power HX2, and has a cast frame, dual voice coil, BART surround, and vomit paper cone.

The stamped frame dual voice coil below it is the Punch HE2, or RFP????.

The first dual voice coil RF speakers were a few years before these, the Punch DVC, and shortly after the Power DVC. The Punch was stamped, the Power was cast, and came right after the legendary RF Power woofers with chrome back plates.

I have owned the following... Punch, Punch XLC, Punch DVC, Power DVC, Punch HE, Punch HX2, and the Power HX2. I still have some Punch HE, and Punch HX2 speakers.

Most people don't remember the original FNQ components. As far as I am concerned they are one of the best components ever made. They were designed with a lot in common with the Hafler TRM8 self powered studio monitors. The FNQs are ruler flat. But, this is not the easiest to implement in a car. Most car speakers are not flat intentionally to compensate for off axis response.

Ok.. I get you on the sub now.. indeed I was thinking of the older models. Those HX2's are nice. I've built enclosures for so many of those.. well.. I've built so many of enclosures for tons of different RF models..lol  I think the HX2's were actually a better sounding driver than the Power HX2. But the Powers were brutes.

I've had too many RF subs to remember... an obsurd amount really. If you see the two boxes in my "stash" you may recognize these are the older Power series. But.. these are probably the most rare of the Power series as these were very short production. These have the rubber surround, 3d dustcap like the Power DVC, but these also have the chrome motor and are single voicecoil. The frames are also unique to this model as they are the gray and black hammered powder coated finish..Like a few of my other pieces.. these are NIB :hurr:

I certainly remember the first gen FNQ's. Some sort of honeycome cone design and cast frames on the mids correct? I've had a couple pair in the past, and thought they were decent but not unlimited. The tweets were not up to par with the mids IMO. They seemed to suffer from the onset of compression too quickly. I've just never been a fan of smaller tweeters. Not too surprised with the ties with Hafler. I hear you about automotive speaker design. At the same time..a driver/driver set that provides a flat response doesn't necessarily mean a good sounding speaker/system. I do understand how it's often considered an engineering achievement however 8)

Flat response speakers are great until you put them in a car. Then they become anything but flat.

I had a trio of 8 ohm Power 12s. They were like yours. 3D dustcap, chrome, and the hammered finish. I never used them and ended up selling them to a friend. He never used them and still has them. I bought them new.

I agree the tweeter was not the best on the FNQs. Most certainly the weak point.

I also agree the Punch HX2s sound better than Power HX2s. I ran Punch HX2s in my last install, and could have just as easily had Powers but chose not too (at that time subs were free, I just had to glue together what I wanted).

We should probably start an RF thread. We are kind of imposing on this one, but it is really cool to chat with someone so up on RF history, I don't want to cut off the dialogue.

Mods feel free to move/remove my posts..no worries
I'm game to continue the chat however. Perhaps a new thread is the best idea.

It's a sickness. Do they have a pill for this affliction?
And this is only the PG part of my collection ....... not showing the LPL's, RMD's etc.
Sorry for the shitty resolution.

I don't have as much in my collection as most here do, but I'm glad I have the understanding wife I have.

She was playing w/the dog yesterday and threw one of his toys and it hit the home theater speaker. She looked at me like Ut oh! I told her if she ruins one of those speakers it gives me the excuse to build the home theater system I want and that it'll cost $2,500 to hand build it myself. She was actually cool about that.

With all of the stuff I have, she's never once told me to sell it so we'll have some $$ sense I don't have a job.

My wife has decided the only way to deal with my collection is to start one of her own. She is looking for a mint Outlaw and Bandit.
