How rare are the black zx models?

Post by casper97ta »

ive owned quite a few zx and ti's through the years but have never actually known the production numbers on the black zx's. I have a black zx350 now and was thinking about getting rid of it. Im already running another zx350(white) and a matching zx250. Its a v2 if it matters. thanks in advance for the help

the only time that I thought the color mattered or was taken into account was on the zx950.

What condition is the ZX350, and how much do you want for it? I need a black one in v2 as well.

IIR all of the Black ones are V2's. At least I haven't seen a Black V1 yet.

There are tons of black v1 ZX amps out there. I have had a ZX500 and ZX450 which were black and only v1.

So can anyone tell me how many black zx350 v2's were made? or were the numbers not really published for them?

Most likely hundreds. Although more rare than the white ones, they are not really all THAT rare?

Someone from PG may be able to chime in and give you exact numbers though.

The black finish is also very durable. It is pretty scratch resistant and I have never seen one peal like the white ones do. ZPAs use the same finish.

I think I remember talking to the rep back when they came out, and they were charging an extra 100 bones for the black ones because they were limited to under a 1000 units, maybe erin could chime in and give us specifics?

yeah- i could see that- to some degree.

i dont think i have come across any PG amp that has had more than one coating- IOW i.e. like a clear over any it-
BUT those textured finishes, like the tiger I just did (my own concoction BTW)
which is a silver vein base coat, they do have the feeling of being much more durable- think it is the additive or something that makes them "textured" and raised up- makes it like a thicker coating. but dont quote me on that- just what/how it feels in the hands. just feels thicker

I too agree that the black was more durable. I think when the paint "crinkles"(technical term) like that it just makes for a thicker surface that held up better. I was working for a dealer back then and do not recall the black amps being anymore expensive then the white nor limited edition. They just wanted to make everyone happy back then.

Blacks are fairly rare.

My rough estimate would say 4 whites to 1 black. Could be more.

i appreciate the info so far guys, i do agree the black finish is much more durable. The white paint does tends to peel over time and the black is a bit "textured" and holds up more. I would actually LOVE to pick up a yellow ZX.

I really like those ZX in black. I've not seen one before. Looks better than the other colours by some margin IMO

Yes they really are nice looking. I had one years ago that I bought brand new when they were still being made!
