highpass frequency for rsd tweeter

Ok im buying some coaxials that has had the crossover removed. Rsd4 to be exact. Was wondering what I should cross these at.I found some 5khz 12db that are pretty cheap at parts-express. what do you guys think? will i need something to attune it?

I'd get a crossover from a set of RSD comps if you can find one. Problem is you have to impedance match your drivers to the crossover as well, and I think PG may use 6 ohm tweeters (but don't quote me on that).

I would cross the tweet at around 4kHz 24dB as a starting point. You could probably go as low as 3.2kHz like the Elite tweeters as long as you had a 24dB slope.

right right. The crossovers I was looking at were for 4 ohm. i really dont feel like making my own so.....Ill figure something out. I think there is an mx2 for sale around here somewhere

You might want to send Dako a PM... he just bought an RSD comp set to replace a blown mid so he may have spare crossovers to sell you.

hey guys. indeed i do. i just installed my 6.5 mids last night and have a brand new set of x-overs if you want 'em. not sure what to ask as far as price?? PM me if interested. maybe trade something?

by the way, during lunch today, i'm definitely going to try the 3.2kHz vs 4kHz to see if there's much of a difference. I wasn't too sure if 3.2kHz was too low for the RSD tweeters, so i automatically went with 4kHz at 24db.

3.2 is the lowest I would go, since I believe that is around where the stock crossover is set. You may get some breakup at high volumes when run active, but they should handle it without too much stress. Give it a try and see if you like it.

The mid probably isn't as good playing up to 4k as the tweeter is down to 3.2k, so you would be better off at 3.2k between both IMO. If you can, you may consider underlapping the frequencies (so mid plays to high 2k's, tweet plays to mid 3k's), which should smooth things out a lot.

i set the mid-high to 2.5kHz and the tweeter to 3.2kHz (both at 24db) and I have to say, it sounds a lot better now. things sound a bit more spacial and detailed. we'll see if i get any breakup on the tweeter during the drive home. didn't want to piss off anyone in the parking lot here at work.
