Ok here goes.
I have a 1998 Dodge Durango with a 5.9L V-8 Magnum.
I have installed a 240 amp Alt. but wanted to see if there was a larger Alt. made for this vehicle.
I have heard of Ohio Gen, Iraggi.
Has anyone used these or others?
I wanted to start with at least a 300 amp Alt.
My next question.
The truck has a computer controlled voltage regulator with a battery temp sensor.
Can I bypass this sensor and regulator and install an external regulator without causing a problem to the computer?

the sensor probably uses a thermistor to tell what the temp of the battery. This is nothing more then a resistor that changes its resistance with the temperature. All the computer does is read the resistance, and then calculate the temp from that. If this is the case you could just swap the thermistor for a regular resistor and the computer will think the temp never changes. You might be better off on a forum based on your truck to tell you the truth, they are normally the ones that know the little secrets to their vehicles.

The way it was explained to me, There is several modauls in the computer housing.
Engine, Charging , chassis.
They all talk to each other to control the vehicle.
The way I read the info. The charging side was almost like an external regulator but with the intergrated temp sensor to control the charging rate.
The only info not listed was if the regulator was bypassed would the check engine light stay on and would this put the computer in limp mode.

What the bejezuz are you gonna be running that you will need 300 amp alt? That fugger will be huge.
I second the notion of going to a Dodge specific forum for vehicle specific jargon. You should have no problem swapping the alt, but the voltage reg. may be a different animal. i do know you can buy specific voltage reg. for high amp usage think it's in Nevada if i do recall.
