line driver help needed

Post by forrest »

Car is a 93 BMW 325is. It has been in the garage undergoing some changes for a few years. I've made a few changes to the stereo in that time. Gear currently used
Apline IVA-d106 Headunit
PG Tbat2
PG eq232
PG zpx2
PG bass cube
3 zpa 0.5 for subs
SOFAS #18 for front stage
3 Ground Zero Nuclear 12"s
Image dynamics IDQ 8" dvc in kicks
Image dynamics hlcd pro mini horns
240 amp alt
3 kinetic hc1800 power cells
The way it used to be wired was tbat up front to eq232, to zpx2, to bass cube to pld1 then y'd off using 4 y connectors to split up going into the 3 zpa's for the subs. Is this ok? I have a audio control matrix 6 channel line driver I am contemplating installing it in place of the pld1. I can run 1 input and 3 outputs so it would elimate all the y's and is capable of higher voltage than the pld. What do you guys recommend?

The tbat does, I dont think the eq does. I am just wondering if its ok to have it y'd off so many times.

Most of this stuff was installed like 10 years ago so my memory is cloudly. But from what I can remember we couldnt turn the tbat up to much because the sofas would clip if we did, it doesnt like the higher voltage. So we added a pld after the bass cube to turn it up .

Were the gains on the amp turned down when you tried that ? I've never met a PG amp that couldn't take the full blast from AudioControl, which is a higher voltage than any PG line driver.

AudioControl on average is 9 - 9.5 volts RMS while PG line driver's are only 8 volts.

Sweet install. If you have not already, you need to replace the capacitors in the SOFAS, and the ZPAs. Honestly they could catch fire any day, and will give you zero warning when they do.

I just had a friend replace all the caps in my 5 0.5's, he's working on the sofa now. I wouldnt mind removing the sofa in favor of a pair of 0.3's but haven't come across any.

The car?
It was featured in the may 03 issue of Eurotuner and then the march 04 issue of Performance BMW. It's gone thru alot of changes since then.
