It is sad what is happening to the Soundbuggy with all the adult spam postings :(

Anything Fosgate can do to prevent it?

This mod singlehandedly got rid of all of my spambots:
http://www.lithiumstudios.org/phpBB3/vi ... p?f=25&t=4

You can use this mod to install it, and most other mods as well:
http://area51.phpbb.com/phpBB/viewforum.php?sid=&f=15

I also removed the phpBB information from the page footer. Bots search for this string, so while I would like to support the copyright information on the product, it is also a hole that lets bots get in.

I am not the administrator of the forum, and really have no clue how to do anything to it, other than make it not work altogether.

Joe is always busy, and I really don’t wish to bother him about this, as he is still very frustrated I ruined the forum in the first place.

At this point, the search feature still works, so if anyone wants to look something up, have at it.

I can help you out, I'm very fluent with phpBB...it's what my site runs off of....luckily I have not had this problem, but I have seen that mod before.

I know of another forum that is having the exact same problem, they are using an older version of IPB....and there's nothing we can do, we've done email confirmation, robotic registration (image verification)....they are real people registering, getting the confirmation email, and then spamming...unbelievable.

Just out of curiosity, how did u ruin it? Was it something technical u had a hand in on that forum or was it the way a lot of us PG fans took it over as our own?

I became pissed off at one or two members and dug a deep hole bickering back and forth. I then became so frustrated with the whole ordeal I suggested closing the forum down. Stipud set this forum up and everyone migrated here, thus showing everyone’s distaste for me and my behavior. So in the end I screwed it all up and I am to blame.

To further compound things, Joe (the owner/administrator of the SB forum) became bored with it and stopped updating things or implementing new improvements and features. The SB forum became stale, with next to zero audio related discussion, only personal problems with members and their lives.

well threatening to shut er down isn't standing still. that is the way i interpreted it.

after it was decided you weren't shutting down, we were already here.

I share Bfowlers opinions and respect for you as well. There for a while, I thought it was shut down.

I intended to shut it down as no one posted any car audio related topics or discussion anymore. It became a hair salon, not a car audio forum. But, I put it back when a lot of people addressed the desire to look up old information.

So, you are right, shutting it down was a direction, but I was thinking more along the lines of what led to my desire to shut it down.

No one posted anything anymore, and I never got any new suggestions for things to do with it, plus Joe was not available to implement anyone’s ideas they may have had.

One more element to the mix was I did not have internet access for 7 months. Every day when I got to work and checked out the forum, there was some new mindless crap to sort out.

Failure was guaranteed.

Things are much better off now, as stipud is doing a great job keeping things fresh and keeping things in line, or at least on topic.
