Opinions on the PHOENIX GOLD RSd 65cs

Post by Me-262 »

I've heard a bit of chatter here about this comp set. I'm looking to buy a set of comps for the new car and want something good without spending a whack of cash. I'll be powering them with the front stage of a Ti500.

Originally I was looking to spend about $150-200 for a comp set, CDT's and the like. Seeing as these are $79 on Ebay should I just save 1/2 the cost and are they worth it ? Is anyone running them ?

Any idea how deep the mids are or how large the tweets are ?

Fuzzysnuggleduck has a pair, and they are awesome. The mids and highs are darn close to my Elites, and the midbass is stronger. I can't think of a better set for the money.

Not really "drop and play" IMO means jack shit when it comes to higher end installs. For instance, does the RSd set compare to say a emm the DYN system 240 once properly tunned and installed I had.... no, but they did sound better IMO then the dyn did before either set was properly installed and tunned.

I have the RSD6cs, not the RSD65cs but any worry about the 6" lacking midbass was somewhat unwarranted on my part. Even the 6" kicks ass.

Now, I realize there are much better drivers out there. But I haven't seen or heard anyone compare a driver in the same price range (or even as much as twice the cost) and come out saying the RSD was outmatched.

I couldn't be happier with what I paid for my RSD and because I'm more-or-less an audio noob, I couldn't be happier with the sound either.

If you want to read an intoxicated review of my system, who's main components are the RSD6cs, see here and here. They are in my install thread so you can see pictures and what not as well if you give a shit.
