same question. i saw someone had a blue fan that blew more air and was more quiet very interested in changing out the fans for more efficient air flow

Ya, I know what you need. If you don't want a LED fan, there are still plenty of other options. Shoot me a pm and I'll give you the site and part number when I get a chance. I didn't do the upgrade on that amp, but I sent him the fan on a trade we did. I did it on this amp though.

I need to replace the fans in my octane LE and if it were not for the LE aspect I would slap some of those blue fans in there. Can't help it but I like it......

Alright, here's what you're after and where to get them. These come with nice nylon sleeving and shrinkwrap, and they allow you to choose the colors of both the nylon and the shrinkwrap. These also are 3 wire fans, but come with 2 wire adapters.

What I'm Sure Of

These are quieter and have a higher CFM rating than the stock fans.
These will work, and will operate at full speed all the time if jumped off the remote and power.

What I'm Not Sure Of

Can you connect these in the stock location without problems.....don't know, never even gave it a try b/c Eric had mentioned having problems with some of the fans he had tried in the past.

If I'm not mistaken these same size fans are in any PG amp that has a fan, at least all the one's I've seen have had these....everything from ZX250 to a 900.7.

When looking at the fans, airflow is measured in CFM and noise is measured in dB.

Maybe Eric will chime in and say it needs to be a certain wattage, otherwise they can all be used by jumping them off the B+ and Remote. I know the stock fans are .26amp, not sure what the wattage....or what the math is to find that out. But if Eric knows that then I can find the exact fan you can use without any problems.

If you shoot freshkryp69 a pm, or if he chimes in here. He can tell you how to hook it up with a custom fan speed controller, this allows you to dial in the speed you want......so if you're cranking on the bass, you can run the fan/s full blast. Or if you're just cruising around or listening to it on the bench you can turn them down a bit......really sweet to have actually, and that would be the little knob you see here.

Does anyone know what the maximum amps you can draw off the fan circuit?

The stock fan is apparently .26amps from the factory, and then in theory if you used that as the maximum, you shouldn't run into any problems... The fan linked to above is only .20amps so it should be fine running off the stock location.

That should be the only thing that would really matter when dealing with the fans. If you draw too many amps off a circuit designed for less, you will fry stuff.

How does the circuit control the fan? Is it all or nothing, ie on or off, or does it vary the voltage depending on the temp?

If its on/off, then you could just add in a micro relay to the fan circuit and get your power from B+ and run a bigger fan without problems.

I am going to be picking up a 400.2, and I want to replace the fan with a new better fan, so I am interested in knowing what has been done in the past and what works and what doesn't...

I figured since we are talking about blue leds, I would throw this into the conversation as well...

The amp I am getting the tri leds don't work, the amp works fine, so I am going to be replacing those too. Here's a link to the ones I found from searching the phorum that people seem to say are the closest:

The important bits are the mcd (brightness), size, and dominant wavelength (color). The ones I linked to are not super bright (only 250mcd, compared to "super bright leds" which are 5000mcd and above), so I think they will work better when you have 3 of them, it won't blind you when you turn it on

Those of you that have replaced them before, are these the correct ones?

Forward voltage is 3.5v if you want to go with different colors instead of stock.

As far as brightness goes, there is a resistor on the daughter card that the LED's solder to that controls that.

Can you tell what is stock and what is replaced ?

Thanks man! I found those earlier, but the brightness was alot brighter, but knowing that that resistor controls the brightness makes that a moot point. Thanks for the link and the correct replacement part!
