Headliner & Insulation
Headliner & Insulation
I've pulled down my headliner to replace the fabric on it and was wondering does anyone ever insulate or lay dynamat down up top? I don't think alot of road noise makes it in through the there, but I know the heat does. Just curious on thoughts.
yeah a layer of dynamat extreme then 1/2 inch of rockwool insulation i find works well

I am planning on putting some sort of mat on the roof panel of my SUV.
The size is rather large and I'm thinking maybe the added vibrations from such a large panel will be heard when the rest of the panels are deadened.
From reading some of the threads here. I am thinking a small patch in the middle of each larger section would do the trick.
I am not too worried about the sound from outside but more of the vibrations from the panels.
What auto are you working on?

If you can get some luxuryLinerPro or loaded mass foam like Tom just picked up it'll do wonders..... It'll even help keep the cabin cooler in the sumertime.....
Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

Put a layer of dampener on there and a layer of closed cell foam on top that, that's all you need. I did and my roof is super quiet now, where before it sounded like a tin can when it rained.
The CCF blocks out higher frequency noises (wind, etc) which works really well up there.
You don't' need to put MLV up there b/c that blocks out more lower frequency noise which is pretty absent in the roof area. (Lower freq noises = think general road noise, noise from tires, etc etc.)

I'm working on a 98' Durango.
You might want to think about a medium size sqaure of heavy mat in the center to stop the metal flex and follow that with a full foam mat.
Might help with the fit.
Pics if you get a chance
