i just got a sub on trade and didn't try it. I got it last night just put the sub box in my car and can to work today. i tried to move the sub up and down to see if i could hear the voice coil rubbing. to my suprise the sub is suck in the down position and its almost like it was glued in this place i can't get it to move at all. I was told it was working but look like i got burnt . I went to my car to try it to see if some power will move it but the sub is 100% dead it doesn't move no sound almost like i have not conected the sub to power
its a focal 10" in a prefab box but what are your thoughs.

the amp is 100% fine it the sub
I took the sub out of the box so its sitting on the counter. it will not move up and down at all. the amp works great on my jl 12w6v2 never had a problem. I know what your saying but it will not move at all with out power just sitting there its almost like its glued in the down position. even when i apply presure i can't get it to move up or down. its about as soild as a peice of wood zero movement what so ever
I think i seen something like this on you tube were a guy fried the sub by plugging it intot the wall and the voice coil welded its self to the magnet

Sounds like a "dropped coil". This is where the coil get so hot the glue holding it in a coil shape fails and the coil unravels then binds up the speaker.
If it does not smell at all, and is indeed a dropped coil, I would stay well away from that model of speaker in the future. No good speaker would ever drop the coil without a smell remaining. It is a sign of very cheap glue being used.

No longer really "in tune" with the audio industry, and probably have not been for some time.
Hands down the forum's most ignorant member...
Don't even know what Ohm's law is...
What would cause a sub to stop moving...............plug it into a wall socket..... It'll stop real qwik like...... And fill yer house with magic smoke smell.....
Those tender little burgers with them little, itty-bitty grilled onions that just explode in ya mouth like flavor crystals every time you bite into one.. just makes me want to burn this muthafuka down.... Come on, Pookie, let's burn this muthafuka down!!!

Did you buy it from someone on the phorum?

I have seen it happen to a buddy's sub(rf funny enough eric) after he took it out of his car and left it in his garage overnight. I think the change in temp hurt it as it was cold as hell that winter. He did end up having it repaired though, not sure if you can do that
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.
