Keep my ZPA's or trade them in?
I've got 2 rsdc 124's and a ti elite 6 comp set with two .3's and two .5's for power. If I stick with my current vehicle, then chances are I won't be able to install all of it due to limited space. I have an extended cab truck and need the back seats. I've been thinking of getting rid of some of the zpa's for a multi channel amp and running solely that amp so that Im limiting the space that is taken up. I like nice clean bass and good SQ. Not sure what I should do as I keep going back and forth in my head.

I used to run xmax 12's on a .3 without the mod and it sounded good. The problem is where im going to put the gear which is why I thought of getting a multi channel to limit the space taken up by the amp. With just the two 12's im going to have to raise the back seat for the box, which doesn't leave much room for anything else. I don't want to go moding any panels because I don't know how long I will end up keeping the truck.

Well I pulled out the back seat and rear panels and this is what I have to work with. If you look at the two square cut outs in the side panels, there is probably enough air space behind those panels for two 12's (per side).
If I was to cut the panels and turn those into a box for 12's how much would it affect the integrity of the side panel? I would actually build a box to fit and wouldn't actually use the panels themselves as the enclosure. I also would only have one 12 per side.
If I did that, then I would have room under the seats for the rest of the gear. Whats your thoughts and opinions on this?

bro on the real seal up those panels with some 2 part foam (or even spray foam and mount the subs in those panels. trim the factory panels with some 12" pre-fab rings we have at aamp and you'd be good to go and save all kinds of room. Also if you are thinking of changing amps use a s1000 and s400 and mount them under the front seats. total stealth no room lost
Yeah I think im going to go with the subs in the sides, and the amps under the seats. I think I might stick with the zpa's for the power as they are great amps although I still like the thought of having an LE amp. I still have plenty of time to debate that through my head. Shoot for that matter I will debate it until im actually finished installing it (I tend to go back and forth with my decisions)
Zak, you mentioned the pre-fabed rings, do you have a link to those handy?

are we really recomendin sealing it off with foam? How long do you think that would last? I thnk duct tape would be much much better.
All the great istallers I know are not afraid to cut the metal but will also add bracing to help stiffen it back up. You cut that part out and happen tot have a wreck right there and I think it would be messy

you realize that foam will break down when exposed to a couple of years of temp changes and vibrations? There is a reason foam is not used all that much anymore. It big for about a week but the longterm effects are not all that great...
what size speaker do you want to put there? Is that a 6.5" speaker above it? The whole doesn't look that deep either I am just afraid there isn't enough airspace even if you cut that whole piece out.
Have you thought about building an enclosure to start at the end of the center consol, or even replacing part of it? That is what I did on my ranger and it really sounds good. It is the first time I made a rear facing woofer in a truck and it suprises me for a single ten.

That consol was out of an explorer and it was really really big to fit the cd changer of the time. I gutted the entire bottom out of it and exteded it a few inches to get the air needed.

im thinking the glass may need some thing to keep it from shaking loose even though i have my two critcal mass 15's in a box in the trunk of my benz. it pushes my front windsheild in and out with the bass if i push them with my zx450 just the edges of the windshield move in and out but on my 0.3 the center of the windsheild gets flexed.

i would think it would be good to have a template made of 16 gauge steel that the sub would fit in and then weld up the other square openings with the same thickness of steel. but it would take a highly skilled welder to weld it up without warping the metal it would have to be spot, stiched and skip welded to do so.
