Ti stripping, now with pics, need your opinion

I found a use for the 16" x 6" pg surfboard logo I have had for a while and decided to put it to use. I hate putting people in the back seat of my stang and like the look of a rear seat delete so I am going to flush mount and backlight it on the back portion. My problem is that I have a couple of the usual ti rust spots on the edges, just enough to bug me so I want to get rid of them. I started with some sand paper and was suprised that after 25 mins I was just barely starting to work through it in the small spot I was working on. What is avialable that would strip the clear?

anyone ever polished on of these?

try the rustoleum rust remover- think at walmart for 2.99 or maybe it's 6.99- or any locally owned harware store (my preference)

but- the trouble is- it spider webs under the clear coat so the rustoleum will only work on spots that are exposed to the outside. wont work on rust under the clear coat.

think really only was is to strip it clean of powder using chemical stripper- sherwin williams has super strip and you simply brus it on.

Rinse and apply rustoleum, and then clear coat it- if not into powder coating then go get a 3.00 can of clear acrylic or something...

i dunno- IIWM, thats how i would do it, substituting the clear acrylic for powder coat- AND prolly do two coats of clear to ensure it wouldnt happen again in next 30 years

I think I am going to try polishing it after stripping it. Never seen one polished and I think it will look pretty sharp where I want to put it

I have never liked putting people in the back of my stang, and like the way a rear seat delete looks so I am gonna do it. I am going to flush mount the eq232 in the middle of the bottom so that I will only have to turn around real quick to tune it. The I have a piece of blue lexan the same shape as the logo so I am going to flush mount it on the back part and backlight it. I am also going to add some style to it with some polished aluminum inserts going across it. it will probably be grey/black vinyl to blend with the interior so I think the polished logo lit up behind it would look perty cool.

just like it sounds, rip out the back seat and put a shelf that you can store stuff under or on top of. It is a popular thing to do on mustangs since it drops some weight and because the back seats suck anyway. I have had people back there 3 times since it was new in 94 and all they do is whine while they are back there.

went out and found a citristrip crap that was in a spray can and safe for home use. One coat of that and it came right off 20 mins later.

Did some sanding and polishing but didn't get it to a perfect mirror, that steel is pretty tough. After that I put on a coat of clear thick enough that it was alomst dripping off of it.

Now I can't decide if I should use the perferated steel behind the logo or just leave the blue plexi? What do you guys think?

ah, they are both blue. You mean the one with out the perf steel? I kinda feel the same but I think it would make for a cool look when it is lit up.

Now on that one the board mounts to where the back of the seat goes and leaves a gap between where the factory trim ends and the board begins. I am going to make my flush with the front of the factory trim, and put a board in the back like normal so there will be a small area in there to store/hide stuff as well as light up the logo.

then on the bottom I am going to flushmount the eq232 that I hope to get my hands on this week.

I personally don't like the rear seat delete, unless of course your going to throw all your equipment in the back for a classy install. I'd rather keep the back seats, just looks better in my opinion.

I'll be losing the rear seat in my Jimmy I don't like putting people back there anyway all they do is complain about getting in and out and they hook their feet on the plastic trim that covers the seat recline and break it.

see the gap that there is between the trim and were the board mounts? I am going to make mine flush with the trim, as well as have that board behind it so I can store jumper cables, first aid kit or anything else I want to hide. It will look smoother with out that gap there and I am going to vinyl it so that it will match the trim. Where he has his matching subs I will have the lit-up logo. The eq 232 will be in the seat area where I will be able to reach it by just turning around.

The top of my trim is black, not grey so I put a coat of gloss black and clear on the perferated steel as I think it will match the black trim a little and draw a contrast from the shiney logo and blue plexi. I am waiting for it to dry and I will take a pic of that.

The only person that uses my back seat is my dog, and she will be just as happy with it being perfectly flat....

I added a pic of the black perferated and I think I like it the best. It will be flushmounted to black vinyl to match my interior so I think it will help it blend a little bit.

There is also a piece of standard clear plexi that has been brushed, behind the blue plexi. I am going to edge-light the logo so the bushed piece will really pick up the light, and the blue will obviously turn the light blue.

I bought all this from someone on here a year or two ago, can't remember who but time to put it to good use.

the white leds will actually be wrapped around it edge lighting it. I think it will look cool, leds are in the mail now.......

the blue is, the clear plexi behind the blue is brushed on the back side and clear on the other.

Go with whatever you prefer, but in my opinion is thst the blue one without grill gives the cleanest looks!

picked up the wood and the aluminum strips today. I am hoping to have the wood cut to fit tonight and tomorrow I can start to inlay the aluminum strips.
