hello i have a m44 that ive owned since my first paycheck!!lol.problem is just started ,if i turn my volume ,to a decent jamming level up my power light on amp will dim and sound loss is dramatic and destorted?is the infamous caps?i know ill get a did u even search?!!lol btw this is on highs,and not a power supply to amp issue i can replicate problem on my pr-100 benchtester.any advice would be helpful,by any chance i would like to replace blue and black caps,i have found the black ones on digi-key wondering if any one had the # for the two blue one's too!thanks again for any help!i supplied a youtube clip of it on benchtest front parallel stereo 4 ohm bridged rear channel on one jl 10w0.4 ohm.and yes i realized something is about to smoke.lol .. grr cant post link on first post!! keep them bots out!!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WUS-hSWqJjw

lol agreed,but to get a good vid in; i needed some bass and that was on the radio at the time lol.ya i have looked in it,no leaky caps that i can see.looked pretty good with a mag glass.didnt see anything crazy.but also not a professinal amp repair man.but have replaced caps etc simple stuff

its a strong possablity that the input caps are going bad you will get distortion when they start going bad i have a 0.3 that sounded really bad then i replaced the input caps and now it sounds alot better. you can replace the big blue caps if you want but they dont usualy go bad and i doubt you will find as high of a value in that size so its up to you.

i did also notice above the black caps on m44 on the lid side it is brown and discolored"heat".not sure if that also a tell tell sign,are the black ones input caps?

dont play that amp until you replace those black caps those are the input caps they a ready to explode the shrink wrap is way down on them showing that an extreme amount of heat has been exposed to them. also one of the big blue caps has had alot of heat on it you can see the shrink wrap coming up from the bottom so they are questionable.

Is the brown spot on your case just above these? This is a picture of my amp. The parts I have circled were updated and repaired at PG. It appears this is a common issue with M44's. We had a discussion about this not that long ago. Try and search for it on the forum in the Car Audio section.

after better inspection of where brown spots wher on the board..eek look like i have a microcontorller fudged.and a res .eek i know lol.im getting pics together.i think its a microcontrollor,mc34071p
