Budget, efficient, low power, Dual 18s ported Idea

Post by Mackenzie »

Its that time again, and I have an itch to do something different. I figured this time I would try to find an efficient low power setup, that has the output I like and that is budget friendly. This is what I have come up with.

2- 18 dayton classics ($114 each 18  )

Box-12 cubes@30 hertz
Amp- Undecided, but probably rsd 1200.1

Im hoping this system will have smashing lows, and decent output to my standards, all for a low price. 8) Any thoughts guys? Go for it?

12 cubic feet? Just go cut a hole in your fridge and throw a pair in it.

Big vehicle I assume or is 12 cubes the size of a small trunk and an ib setup?
what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

I dont really use my trunk much. The only other thing in there is my nos bottle, so Im not concerned about giving up the whole trunk.

I have never honestly heard 18s that I really liked enough to say that I would sport them. I think they are more for home theaters personally but it sounds like a fun project to see if you can make them work.

Many car subs work well in the house, and vice versa. On the graph, they had a flat response in the box modeled, so they should be okay for car use.

I say go for it.

I ran 2 18" peavey black widows in a Durango with a Xenon X1200.1
I was smooth and the sound was awe-some either low level or high.

Well Im ordering the 18s tomorrow, although I still have yet to get an amp. These suckers should handle a bit more power aswell, with a 3 inch aluminum coil. I will probably put around 800-1k on the pair. I have heard nothing but good about these both in home, and car. They should drop fairly low in 12 cubes 8)
