Intro myself
Just joined the forum and thought I would introduce myself. My name is Ken and although I am not currently running any PG stuff, I do have some in my stash.
What I have in my '96 Nissan extended cab pickup right now is Eclipse 5441 head, KLW Audio Cathedral processing, Hifonics Series VIII Cyclops sub amp, Orion GT420 for mids and tweets, pair of Orion XTR10 subs, and SoundStream SPL50 mids and tweets. With the exception of the Eclipse head (12 years) the rest has been installed and in use for 16-20 years, through 3 vehicles.
Among stuff I have stashed from Kenwood, Hifonics, Pioneer, Savard, Lanzar, JL Audio, and Audio Control, I also have a pair of Phoenix Gold amps. Brand new and in the box, both of them, a M25 and a M50.
I was just digging around on the web and found this forum and it looked like a good place. No issues right now so I hope I can be of some help to someone here. I started doing car stereo 20 years ago, part owner in a shop for just over a year and installed for about 4 years. I also did some IASCA judging for installs and sound quality back then.
I have gotten more into home stereo the last few years and run a tri amped system for my music. Hafler plate amp on a JL Audio 10" sub, Alesis M-EQ230, Behringer CX2310 xover, Kenwood Basic M2a on A/D/S 320is mids and a NAD 2100 on Vifa D26tg tweets. PC as a source loaded with a M-Audio 2496 sound card. HT system is 5.1 Onkyo HT-R510 with a Sony XBR 36" TV

I did have a EQX215 in there for a few years but decided that I didn't really need it. The EQ was mostly flat and the xover part was unnecessary. Just used the high pass out of the Cyclops.
As soon as one of the amps I am running now goes out, the M25 and M50 will go in. The M50 bridged on the subs and the M25 on the mids/tweets.
I have considered running some pro gear in there as well. I just don't want to run a standard DC/AC converter up to 120volt just to plug in another transformer the the pro piece. Would like to build a 12vDC to 9vAC converter.

i may not be as harsh as the other guy's with the rope and the 1/0 wire but i will say this if your not going with phoenix gold your not going for the gold. im not knocking the gear your using because it looks to be a pretty good setup but if you where to use those phoenix gold amp's you would still have a really good setup. since you already have a strong foundation you could get another m series amp say a m50 or m100 and then run it like this. you could use the m25 for tweets the m50 for mids and then the m50 or m100 for bass which ever one you can find then you would have a more optimized setup.
your right, threatening haning with 1/0 pg cable is a little rough, he is new here.
We will start with 10 lashes, you can pick the cables as long as they are pg. Now I am not willing to back down from this punishiment short of the pope interviening, we have to teach a lesson.....

what else can I say I am a grumpy asshole most of the time.

Yea...If I were to use just the M25 and the M50, I would have to revert back to the passive xovers that came with the SoundStream SPL50 set. BTW......That set is rated at 2ohm. A M44 or another M25 would fit real nice. I would use the 2XS I have for a xover if I had another M25.
Also......I'm 47 years old
I don't really care for big bass (not that I ever have) If memory serves (it was about 10 years ago) the best I got out of the subs was 118db. Sealed box at about 2.5cuft for the pair. "A" weighted on a Audio Control RTA. I don't remember the song played. 118db is plenty for me. Besides.....Mega bass does nothing more than say "STEAL ME"
I should probably pull the subs and measure real T/S parameters. Mfg specs are notoriously wrong. Should also change the caps in the amps as well.

The Cathedral (XA-24) is really intended for rear channels. It's a digital delay processor. I use it on the front channels as it REALLY opens up (raises and widens) the front sound stage.
The Orion GT420 has a built in 12db xover. I have no idea if it is Butterworth, Linkwitz-Riley, Bessel or whatever slopes.

What I think would be cool would be a small laptop mounted somewhere, somehow in the dash/console running this software. http://xover.sourceforge.net/ Out from there to your amps.
Here are some links to some other cool software bits...

Yea.....works like the ESP3. The Cathedral has adjustments for L&R Level, Tone (at 600hz,1.2Khz and 3.4Khz), Density, Depth and Time delay (7-20ms)ttocs wrote:makes it sound like a cathedral right? Like most home processors do. I use an audio control esp3 sparingly myself to help widen it from time to time.
And a remote so that you can add just as much or little as you want. Also has a on/off button at the remote.
